Job Description

The Director of R&D Operations will manage the R&D department is responsible for the overall operation of the R&D Department. The R&D Operations Director oversees all aspects of all engineering project cycles. This position is a highly critical supervisory and leadership role that involves providing support to existing engineering operations, and ensuring compliance. The R&D Operations Director will oversee daily operations within the department to make sure deadlines are being met, in budget and on time. The Director must possess excellent leadership skills, communication skills and management skills. They must have creativity and a positive attitude. The Director of the Operations reports to the VP of R&D.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create an environment of strong team spirit, with timely and effective communication, a sense of urgency, and high motivation to work to manage operations.
  • Focus on driving excellence and seeking opportunities for business improvements in all day to day operations
  • Set the operational cadence of the business
  • Provide, facilitate & collect insights, analysis and research for decision making on prioritization & planning
  • Develop and foster productive, collaborative relationships with cross functional teams
  • Provide clear, consistent, and regular communication among the team and cross functional team members
  • Provide & track progress and accountability of initiatives and goals
  • Provide visibility on target tracking (including forecasting)
  • Drive consistency on the metrics/ cadence
  • Oversee and be accountable for a portfolio of work that furthers strategizes R&D and organizational objectives
  • Drive strategic alignment across business stakeholders to provide comprehensive analysis of emergent and improvement opportunities
  • Partner and interact with senior leadership across organization to achieve objectives and drive business outcomes.
  • Provide analysis and thought leadership on issues critical to the success of the business's strategic goals.
  • Coach, mentor and lead and a team of product strategists and innovative engineers
  • Lead the team to the next level and drive innovation
  • Act as R&D liaison for Thorofare site to VP of R&D
  • Provide detailed Operations reports to VP of R&D

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • BS degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Master’s degree (MS, MBA) preferred but not required
  • PMP or CME certification is a plus

EXPERIENCE

  • Leadership experience is a must
  • 7+ years of Management of R&D processes
  • 10+ years in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or related field

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES (KSA’s)

  • Must be knowledgeable about both engineering and administrative tasks
  • Highly adaptable in a fast-paced hyper-growth environment
  • Proven experience with prioritization frameworks and matching skills to the right work
  • Create clear and concise executive summary memos and presentations
  • Present to executive management
  • Work with business units to gain in-depth understanding of processes, challenges, and strategies.
  • Project Management knowledge and background
  • Knowledge of cross-organizational work processes
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Ability to manage a team of 30 or more
  • Demonstrated experience influencing senior management and setting expectations for major cross-functional initiatives
  • Ability to effectively communicate with different R&D disciplines and link projects together
