Job Description

*Please note that while this is a remote role, the ideal candidate would need to live within a few hours of our Thorofare office so they could commute in when needed for meetings.*

The Sr. Technical Writer collaborates with R&D/Engineering and Field Service to plan, author, and edit technical documents supporting product manufacturing and installation. The output formats include PDF documents, digital media, and video content. The ideal candidate is comfortable writing quick start installation/setup guides and test procedures. The written content and illustrations support Checkpoint Systems state-of-the-art RF and RFID solutions. The candidate must have strong communication skills with experience in electronics and/or software fields and ability to deliver high-quality technical publications for both internal and external use.

Job Duties

  • Write and edit manuals, guides, and instructions used by Field Service
  • Collaborate directly with Mechanical Engineering to author and design graphics for installation procedures
  • Support and co-author content with other Engineering disciplines including Hardware/Electrical Engineering and Software/Firmware groups
  • Create and edit graphics, technical drawings, and images used for visual communication
  • Support on-site media production, photography, video creation and live streaming
  • Conduct interviews to gather source material from technical experts
  • Create videos about Checkpoint products (e.g. installation videos)
  • Interface with QA to obtain information about product installation and field support
  • Support release and documentation change process (ECN)

Qualifications

Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Visual Communications, Engineering (ME, EE or related field), or equivalent experience in the electronics industry

Experience

  • 4+ years technical writing experience
  • Experience creating user guides and/or documentation using Microsoft Word
  • Experience with image processing and graphic design software: Photoshop, Illustrator, SnagIt
  • Experience writing technical documents for electronic systems

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to write clear and concise documentation
  • Proficient with Office 365 tool suite, FrameMaker and Adobe Acrobat Pro/DC
  • Attention to detail, strong collaboration and communication skills required
  • Ability to quickly learn, analyze, and understand technical subject matter, and communicate it in a clear manner
  • Photography and graphic design skills required, video creation/editing skills a plus
  • Self-motivated, team player, with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deliverables simultaneously
