Job Description

Checkpoint Systems is seeking a creative and highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to join the R&D team at our corporate headquarters.  In this position, you will support the development of new and existing product lines.  You will play an integral role in all aspects of product life cycle, from concept to production.

You will be responsible for designing a variety of injection molded, cast, stamped, extruded, and machined components.  The ideal candidate will have familiarity with DFM for these processes.  You will make use of our in-house prototyping capabilities to evaluate concepts for form, fit, and function. 

Our products are technology driven, intelligent solutions for inventory control and loss prevention. They are used worldwide for retail markets such as apparel, grocery, and electronic.

Job Duties

 

  • Drive projects forward, making technical decisions to achieve project goals
  • Create 3D models, detail mechanical drawings, and develop BOMs using SolidWorks CAD
  • Design complex components & assemblies with DFMA in mind
  • Provide engineering expertise to evaluate designs for structural integrity and thermal stability
  • Develop products using various production processes: injection molding, sheet metal forming, machining, extrusions, vacuum forming, and aluminum casting
  • Fabricate physical prototypes for proof of concept and early engineering evaluation
  • Interface with multidisciplinary teams: Project management, Hardware, Software, Industrial design, Manufacturing (both domestic and international)
  • Communicate design concepts throughout development to members of our manufacturing team

Qualifications

Education

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technologies

Experience

  • 5+ years of mechanical design experience for industrial or consumer product industries
  • Solid modeling experience with SolidWorks, CSWP preferred
  • Must have experience designing parts for injection molding
  • Must have experience handing off designs to manufacturing

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must be a team player who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Must have a strong understanding of production methods: injection molding, sheet metal stamping, vacuum forming, extruding, aluminum casting, welding
  • Strong understanding of DFM and DFA principles
  • Must have great mechanical aptitude and be Hands-on; familiar with Rapid Prototyping materials and techniques
  • Experience with PDM tools/revision control
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required, will interact in a world-wide cross functional team
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal required
