Job Description

Checkpoint Systems is seeking an experienced, highly motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the R&D team at our corporate headquarters.  In this position, you will take a lead role in the advancement of new products and existing product lines.  You will play an integral part in all aspects of product life cycle and will ensure our designs are ready for handoff to manufacturing.

You will identify and solve complex problems.  You will be able to evaluate design risks and mitigate them using tools such as FEA and physical testing.  You will be crucial in ensuring that good engineering practices are followed.  Using your DFM knowledge, you will support manufacturing handoff of components for injection molding, casting, stamping, extrusion, and machining. 

Our products are technology driven, intelligent solutions for inventory control and loss prevention. They are used worldwide for retail markets such as apparel, grocery, and electronic.  Knowledge of EMI shielding is a plus.  Past experience with RF/RFID technology is a plus.

Job Duties

  • Lead projects from concept to manufacturing, making technical decisions to achieve project goals
  • Create 3D models, detail mechanical drawings, and develop BOMs using SolidWorks CAD
  • Design complex components & assemblies with DFMA and cost considerations in mind
  • Provide engineering expertise for various mass production processes: injection molding, sheet metal forming, machining, extrusions, vacuum forming, and aluminum casting
  • Elevate team knowledge and create process improvements
  • Support and review design work of fellow team members
  • Fabricate physical prototypes for engineering evaluation and testing
  • Interface with multidisciplinary teams: Project management, Hardware, Software, Industrial design, Manufacturing
  • Present mechanical design concepts to internal international project team

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technologies; Masters preferred.

Experience

  • 10 - 15+ years of mechanical design experience for industrial or consumer product industries
  • Solid modeling experience with SolidWorks, CSWP preferred
  • Experience with PDM tools
  • Working knowledge of FEA tools for structural analysis (Solidworks Simulation)
  • Must have recent experience designing parts for injection molding
  • Must have experience taking development concepts to manufacturing

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must be a team player who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Must have a strong understanding of production methods: injection molding, sheet metal stamping, vacuum forming, extruding, aluminum casting, welding
  • Strong understanding of design for manufacturing and design for assembly principles
  • Ability to demonstrate fundamental engineering calculations: stress, thermal analysis and tolerance stack-up
  • Must have hands-on prototyping and mechanical testing experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required, will interact in a world-wide cross functional team
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal required
