Job Description

*This is a full time, in house position, located in our corporate office in Lake Mary, FL. 

POSITION SUMMARY

Detailed individual who can provide thorough and timely copy edits, including proofreading, for various print and online brands. On any given day, the Copy Editor/Assistant Online Editor could go from copy editing to writing a news story to promoting the latest content via social media. Assists with a variety of websites, online platforms and e-newsletters. The editorial assistant also will serve as an administrative help to the art director and editors.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Copy edit Charisma Media product as assigned, correcting syntax, spelling, grammar and punctuation; checking Scripture; verifying sources and documentation; and checking names

  • Copy edit interdepartmental materials such as ads and marketing materials

  • Review proposed corrections, changes and queries with the appropriate editor

  • Complete final proofreading of projects as assigned

  • Maintain quality control for legal and doctrinal issues, content consistency and accuracy

  • Maintain the Charisma Media Style Guide in conjunction with the Managing Editor, Print

  • Abide by all policies and procedures of Charisma Media

  • Handle phone, email and package processing for department

  • Maintain ministry and freelance contacts

  • Issue check requests, purchase orders/requests and invoices as needed

  • Handle author agreements and W-9 forms

  • Work with the Department Head on budgets for all magazines

  • Assist art director with maintaining art budget

  • Distribute print logs for magazines

  • Prepare and print magazine proofs

  • Prepare final book for each print issue

  • Mail complimentary copies of magazines to authors

  • Research photo or illustration options for print and online as needed

  • Assist with acquiring images, securing rights and meeting technical specifications

  • Archive and maintain photos in in-house image database

  • Assist with social media postings as assigned

  • Moderate social media as assigned

  • Create and manage timesheets

  • Track and report attendance

  • Keep Google calendar updated with key deadlines, appointments and vacations

  • Maintain on-call schedule for publisher and editors

  • Order departmental supplies

  • Arrange travel for department editors

  • Process copyrights

  • Maintain archive in editorial library and scan content as needed

Qualifications

  • Must be attuned to the vision and values of the Company
  • Familiarity with the charismatic-Pentecostal market desirable

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (preferably in Journalism, English, Marketing, Public Relations or Communications)

  • Experience in writing and editing

  • Knows how to use Word, Excel (or equivalent) and Google applications

  • Experience using InDesign and content management systems like Joomla a plus

  • Can communicate effectively and professionally with readers, freelancers, agents, etc.

  • Possesses good negotiation skills

  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy when handling data

SKILLS

  • Ability to type 50 words per minute

  • Eye for detail

  • Ability to recognize and correct textual anomalies, especially plagiarism

  • Excellent grammar and punctuation skills

  • Knowledge of Associated Press style

  • Can calculate figures

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Ability to learn Joomla content management system

  • Can handle numerous projects at one time

  • Has the temperament to take direction and constructive criticism

  • Ability to initiate and sustain relationships with colleagues and other writers

  • Able to define problems and offer solutions

  • Ability to connect well with online communities

  • Ability to write news stories

  • Ability to write headlines that pique users' interest and drive traffic

  • Temperament to represent Charisma Media in a professional, yet personable manner

  • Able to handle numerous projects at one time
