Job Description

Job Title: Chief Estimator (Construction Manager)

  • NOC: 70010 – Construction Managers 
  • Salary: $245,000 - $290,000 per year (commensurate with experience) 
  • Employment Type: Full‑time, permanent
  • Job Location: 2680 Skymark Ave Suite 600, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada
  • On site: Work must be completed at the physical location. There is no option to work remotely.
  • Work setting: Office, Civil (road and bridge construction, etc.), Institutional construction, Consulting firm, Commercial and/or industrial construction, Quantity surveying
  • Language: English
  • Positions Available: 1
  • Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week
  • Start Date: As soon as possible
  • Budgetary responsibility:  $8,000,001 +

Job Duties

  • Prepare and submit construction project budget estimates
  • Recruit, hire and supervise staff and/or volunteers
  • Plan and prepare construction schedules and milestones and monitor progress
  • Prepare contracts and negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements
  • Establish and implement policies and procedures for quality control
  • Plan and manage budgets
  • Develop risk management plans
  • Utilize quantity take-off procedures
  • Select and employ trade subcontractors and co-ordinate their activities
  • Ensure compliance to drawings, specifications and building codes
  • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate daily operations
  • Represent the organization, or delegate representatives to act on behalf of the organization, in negotiations or other official functions
  • Prepare and submit progress and other reports
  • Plan and organize construction projects
  • Estimate costs and materials
  • Negotiate offers from suppliers
  • Develop construction specifications and procedures
  • Co-ordinate employee performance and appraisal programs
  • Liaise with departmental and corporate officials and with other organizations and associations
  • Interpret blueprints/specifications/standards and written technical instructions

Qualifications

Education

  • College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years
  • Civil drafting and civil engineering CAD/CADD or Construction management

Experience

  • 5 years or more of experience in commercial and institutional construction
  • Significant experience in large-scale industrial/commercial/institutional (ICI) construction projects (typically $50M+)
  • Experience with a variety of project delivery methods is considered an asset
