Job Description

The Accounting Manager, Risk and Loss Prevention is responsible to oversee and manage insurance, bonding, internal audit and enterprise risk management across the organization. This role will be an integral member of the Accounting and Finance leadership team, working closely with members of senior management and our legal team as well as responsible for providing reporting to the Board on the Enterprise Risk Management process. This is a newly created, contract position which, in addition to the duties listed below, will be tasked with helping build and shape this role by recommending and establishing processes.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Oversee the quarterly Enterprise Risk Management process including attending the risk committee meeting, preparation of the Board report as well as attending and presenting on risk matters to the Board of Directors as required
  • Research, recommend and implement changes to the Enterprise Risk Management program.
  • Facilitate training sessions to educate and promote responsible risk management practices.
  • Liaise with project teams to ensure risk management practices are reinforced and compliance in accordance with company policies and procedures including subcontractors/suppliers in regards to applicable insurance and bonding requirements.
  • Perform construction contract reviews for compliance and risk related checks.
  • Ensure up to date knowledge on all aspects of risk tolerance and compliance policies and procedures and work closely with the legal group to assist in any claims and/or contractual risk transfer structures.
  • Ensure all projects have required insurance in place, providing assistance to the project teams in the procurement of coverage.
  • Develop strategies to test financial controls, providing recommended process changes to address areas of risk while maintaining appropriate internal control documentation.
  • Ensure proper segregation of duties within the Accounting and Finance team through management of system permissions and securities.
  • Mentor, train and support the Risk Analyst.

 

Qualifications

  • A minimum of undergraduate in; business, construction management, risk management and/or insurance preferred, however, a combination of education and experience in the related fields will be considered.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience or involvement in managing an Enterprise Risk Management program is an asset.
  • Construction industry experience or knowledge of construction insurance requirements is an asset.
  • Ability to effectively communicate across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to travel within Canada.
