Job Description

In this role, you will lead the overall design and deployment of all data (such as payments and transaction data, customer data, vendor data, metadata, configuration data, etc.) applicable to Central 1’s high-strategic Payments Modernization (PayMod) initiative. The Data Architect will be providing guidance on data standards (such as ISO 8583 / ISO 20022 / ARU / XML), design data sets / structure / models, and manage data integration with internal / external storage solutions.  This will have a focus on data design, storage, management, and migration for integrity, continuity, flexibility across all key payment modernization deliverables.   

The Data Architect will also thread the needle with across Central 1’s broader Data-as-a-Service initiatives to enable actionable insights for all of Central 1’s own products and services, as well as Central 1’s clients’ products and services.  This role will be leading the architecture support on the following technologies: SQL Databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL; NoSQL Databases like MongoDB; Long-term Data Storages like: AWS S3 

What you'll be doing:

  • Define technical roadmaps that align the product deliverables 
  • Design multi-dimensional and significantly complex applications; conducts full review of costs, benefits, risks and implications taking into consideration numerous variables, and recommends effective solutions. 
  • Work closely with Product and Development teams while building solutions; reviews solutions recommended by Developers or others for complex application change requests, ensuring they meet technical standards and specifications 
  • Align technical approaches across the engineering teams; In conjunction with others maintains the application’s architecture, and a roadmap for projects that evolve toward the target.  
  • Design multi-dimensional and significantly complex applications; conducts full review of costs, benefits, risks and implications taking into consideration numerous variables, and recommends effective solutions. 
  • Coach, mentor and enable developers, testers and DevOps regarding the resolution of complex technical matters, new technologies and best practices 
  • Works with diverse stakeholder groups within and beyond Central 1 to ensure all their needs are met by the solution including managing relationships with external technology and across the Credit Union system and with other Central 1 clients 
  • Ensure our solutions are aligned with Payments Canada and other regulatory bodies 
  • Coach and enable engineers instead of driving top down architectural decisions 
  • Define technical roadmaps that align the product deliverables 
  • Work with external technology vendors 

Qualifications

What you'll have:

  • University degree in computer science (or equivalent) and 10+ years of relevant experience in a large-scale IT environment 
  • Extensive technical knowledge and depth in infrastructure, software architecture, databases and agile product development; Advanced expertise in best practices related to application design, configuration and maintenance, system administration and documentation. 
  • Excellent communication, influencing and facilitation skills. In-particular can facilitate problem solving/trouble shooting activities 
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and influence across the organization including Product, Design, Operations, Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success and outside of the delivery organization, including partner, vendor and client organizations
