Job Description

The role is responsible for leading the design of the Operational Risk. The individual is required to have hands on experience in developing and implementing the different Operational risk tools and models with the Technology and Digital Business. Exceptional communication and influencing skills are necessary. The role will entail coaching the team, leading operational risk initiatives and fostering a positive relationship with all Central 1 lines of business and support functions. 

The role reports to the Director, Operational Risk and is based in Toronto or Vancouver.

What you'll do:

  • Provide advisory and oversight services on all levels of operational risk for Central 1, reporting for the Director, Operational Risk.
  • Provides leadership in developing, implementing and communicating operational risk and third party risk policies, standard and procedures.
  • Develop, enhance and maintain the operational risk methodology and governance.
  • Lead the implementation of RCSA, KRIs, Operational Risk Events, New Initiative and change Risk Assessment and Scenario Analysis
  • Report on the Operational risk status at Central 1 to respective committees.
  • Partner with all Central 1 lines of business and support functions in identifying, reporting and mitigating operational risk issues and be the subject matter expert in the operational risk framework and risks/processes/controls.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of current business and function risks to adequately assess risk exposures and impacts.
  • Create and maintain effective relationships and regular interaction with all groups and departments, other members of the risk group, external stakeholders and regulators, as applicable.
  • Identify and assess the resolution of issues which could prevent reasonable assurance that risks are understood and managed within the organizations operational risk appetite.
  • Provide coaching support to colleagues to deliver on priorities.
  • Promote and foster a positive work environment that encourages innovation, creativity, teamwork and quality.
  • Support management and other team members in the achievement of individual, divisional and team goals within the Risk Group.
  • Creates organizational culture and processes that enable cross functional teamwork and development of cooperative relationships across the Risk Group and Central 1.

Qualifications

Who you Are

  • University degree with at least 8 years operational risk management and/or audit work experience. Experienced in executing or providing oversight over the following operational risk programs is essential: technology and Information security risk assessment, risk control self-assessments (RCSAs), operational risk events, key risk indicators, scenario analysis, etc.
  • Certifications in one of the following certifications (CFA, CIA, CPA, CRM, FRM or PRM)
  • Experienced in enterprise risk management, risk appetite and capital models
  • Exposure to agile development methodologies preferred
  • Knowledge of Information Security and Technology is preferred 
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to break down complex situations into manageable parts in a systematic manner
  • Sound people management and leadership experience is required, including a demonstrated ability of influencing the actions of others within and outside of his/her areas of responsibility which includes both internal and external relationships.
  • Organizational awareness and demonstrated relationship building skills, with a superior ability to make things happen using positive influence to implement changes
  • Ability to thrive and apply judgement within an environment of ambiguity
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple deadlines and priorities
  • Professional and articulate with well-developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Enjoy working in a team environment but also able to work independently
  • Ability to understand and interpret regulations and policies
  • Strong project management skills, including process/control, and design and analysis skills are an asset
