Job Description

BASIC FUNCTION: 

Reporting to the Director, the Management Accounting Manager is responsible for managing Central 1’s managerial reporting resulting in the delivery of effective financial planning and budgetary processes, and timely and accurate management reporting.  The successful incumbent will partner with business lines to provide expert financial advice in reviewing  results to identify key areas of focus and provide forward looking analysis.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

PREPARATION AND REVIEW OF THE ANNUAL BUDGET AND ROLLING FORECASTS

  • Coordinate the budgeting process with stakeholders and ensure that the process conforms to policies and procedures approved by Executive Management. Produce supporting schedules and analysis and lead the review of the budget.
  • Update the  forecast to reflect changes within the organization including salary changes, initiation of new projects or other financial events. 
  • Identify trends within the forecast and provide reports to Senior Management.

BUSINESS PARTNERING AND ANALYTICS

  • Monitor important metrics, identifying trends and highlighting opportunities to grow the business
  • Understand data and metrics from multiple sources and multiple perspectives. 
  • Utilize the data to gain insights and partner with the business to drive decisions

MONTHLY FINANCIAL CLOSE

  • Participate in the preparation of Central 1’s monthly financial statements ensuring that assigned responsibilities are processed in accurate and timely manner. 

MONTHLY REPORTING

  • Prepare monthly variance analysis and provide commentary to Senior Management on non-financial performance. 

SUPPORT CENTRAL 1’s FINANCIAL REPORTING PROCESS

  • Ensure that managerial reporting inputs into the financial reporting process are completed in accordance with financial reporting timelines.  
  • Provide various reports and commentary to be included in the quarterly Management Discussion and Analysis and the Audit and Finance reports. 
  • Assist with financial statement disclosure.
  • Coordinate the quarterly signoff of department financial statements and variance analysis used as inputs into the financial reporting cycle.  
  • Ensure that systems and processes are complying with CEO/CFO Certification requirements.

CONTINUOUS REVIEW AND IMPROVEMENT OF MANAGEMENT REPORTING.

  • Working with the Director, identify changes in Central 1 operations or external factors and evaluate the implications for the managerial reporting function.  
  • Review and monitor the effectiveness of existing processes and recommend enhancements were appropriate.  
  • Provide input to the Director on the design of controls over managerial reporting.

Qualifications

 

  • Business degree from an accredited University and an accounting designation.
  • At least five years of experience. 
  • Well-developed people skills are essential to establish effective relationships with personnel throughout all levels of Central 1.  Must have a professional and diplomatic approach. 
  • Excellent analytical skills are required to succeed in this position.   Problem identification and resolution skills accompanied with innovative analysis to consider and recommend potential improvements are also required.
  • Deadlines on financial reporting, budget preparation, system development, seasonal variations in workload and other assigned projects are to be met, and extended hours may be required.
  • Experience in the technology and financial institution industries is an asset.
