Job Description

Central 1 is seeking an innovative, energetic and business-savvy Consultant to join its People Solutions Consulting business unit. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced professional with independent consulting experience in executive talent management to work closely with Credit Union business leaders across Canada while playing a critical role on the People Solutions team.

Central 1 People Solutions partners with credit union leaders across Canada to build strategic human resources capacity. Our HR professionals work with boards, executives and HR teams to minimize risk, drive employee engagement and transform leadership. Through our advisory services, we provide insights and solutions on total rewards, performance management, succession, talent acquisition and management, organizational design and employee engagement.  We deeply understand the challenges and opportunities credit unions face recruiting, retaining and developing executive talent. People Solutions’ ongoing research and thought leadership plus customized analytics and surveys provide credit union leaders with information and data to make better decisions, reduce costs and develop services that employees value. We bring together trusted resources, information and people to enhance the way the credit union system manages talent and supports the employees who make credit unions successful.

As the ideal candidate, you will be based from your home office in SK, and a moderate level of travel within Canada to client sites is expected.

You will be primarily accountable for:

  • Working within the framework of People Solutions’ mandate by providing external strategic human resources consulting services to member and non-member credit unions and to other provincial centrals and credit union affiliates;
  • Having  a key role in contributing to the People Solutions revenue and business plan by delivering external strategic consulting services, identifying and following leads and opportunities for new business and actively promoting People Solutions services and Central 1 overall;
  • Bringing broad expertise in strategic human resources, particularly in the areas of talent management, CEO and executive recruitment, and organizational design, and your primary focus is on delivering related projects. In addition, you have a strong grounding in Board Governance and practices, as it relates to Board responsibilities for Human Resources Governance and CEO performance, compensation, and succession; 
  • Monitoring and identifying HR needs within credit unions, recommending and developing strategies and programs to meet those needs, as well as delivering core research and services;
  • Being accountable for product and service development, improvement, and delivery of the talent suite of products positioning this business line and our clients for growth; 
  • Providing guidance and direction, on a project basis, to the team’s administrative and analytical staff, external contract consultants and strategic partners;
  • Running projects that involve scoping client needs, developing comprehensive proposals, establishing timelines and budgets, delivering complex human resources solutions, managing multiple stakeholders with competing interests, and writing detailed post-project reports that analyze findings, discuss options and present recommendations. 

Qualifications

As the ideal candidate you possess:

  • A minimum of 8 years of progressive human resources leadership experience, which will include a combination of external human resources consulting, leading the human resources function of an organization, and consulting at a strategic level with Executives, CEOs and Boards. You have additional talent management and organizational design expertise and experience designing and implementing human resources programs.
  • An undergraduate degree in business with post-secondary education in HR management or business, preferably at the master’s level. A CPHR designation is expected. 
  • Experience delivering projects to executive or board sponsors is desirable; experience working with credit unions or cooperatives is an asset.
