Job Description

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Senior Accountant, Centralized accounting performs senior accounting functions for Central 1. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the integrity of accounting information that is in compliance with current accounting standards.  The role also requires being able to explain financial results to business unit managers.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Review assigned departments of the financial statements for accuracy and compliance with IFRS accounting principles
  • Review financial results with business unit managers for assigned departments
  • Support business unit managers in forecasting and budgeting
  • Prepare, review and explain variance analysis of assigned departments to finance management team and staff
  • Responsible for Project accounting and tracking
  • Verify, allocate, accrue, post, and reconcile transactions
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations of higher complexity
  • Extract and analyze accounting data
  • Support in the development and implementation of accounting process and procedures
  • Support in the preparation and review of budgets and forecasts for Central 1
  • Support in the preparation of Central 1’s financial disclosures
  • Support commodity tax compliance
  • Back up for the fixed asset sub-ledger processing
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: 

The incumbent will report to the Manager, Centralized Accounting. Work is performed within broadly defined accounting principles and practices and the incumbent must exercise considerable judgement in the selection of alternatives and in setting priorities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed within a normal office environment.  There are frequent demands for extended visual attention to printed and electronically displayed data.

Qualifications

  • A professional accounting designation (CPA) and a university degree together with five years of progressively responsible accounting experience
  • Ability to build relationships with business unit managers
  • An aptitude for detail, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills combined with a high proficiency in excel
  • Continuous improvement mindset
