Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Analyst, Treasury Accounting that will primarily responsible for carrying out tasks that contribute to the overall success of the product control function, which includes the forecasting of different treasury business areas, as well as the accurate valuation of new and existing products. The Senior Analyst will play a substantial role in providing support to the treasury accounting close cycles and will work under the direction and guidance provided by the Team Lead, Treasury Accounting, acting as one of the main point of contacts from external departments.

Specific Accountabilities:

Portfolio and Financial Analyses

  • Analyze and validate periodic p&l using attribution tools, risk metrics, traders’ commentary and independent data sources where available
  • Identify key trends in financial performance, and explain the impact on financial results
  • Validate trends by communicating with middle and front office
  • Perform yield analysis to support forecasting and budgeting processes
  • Analyze and explain variances to as compared to forecasts and budget
  • Understanding of portfolios risk attributes Eg. Duration, DV01s, VaR

Financial Reporting / Daily P&L

  • Ensure successful production, review and distribution of daily p&l
  • Carry out control procedures to ensure that transactions are accurately recorded
  • Improve reporting quality by modifying existing system generated reports
  • Explain and provide context to periodic results for stakeholders
  • Drafting of commentary for various quarterly management reports
  • Provide recommendations and make informed decisions (where appropriate) in resolving valuation outages

Budgeting / Forecasting

  • Participate in the budgeting and forecasting process for Treasury business
  • Work with different stakeholders to gather inputs and assumptions
  • Become a subject matter expert by mastering the various tools used in the process
  • Work with Financial Planning and Analysis team in ensuring that data is transformed to different systems accurately

Management Information Systems

  • Responsible for ongoing maintenance of accounting and financial reporting function within Murex as it relates to Treasury Accounting
  • Act as Murex system champion within Treasury Accounting
  • Work with Team Lead, Treasury Accounting to review, evaluate and recommend potential system upgrades to management
  • Work with internal and external IT support in different system upgrades and enhancements.
  • Work with internal IT support team to resolve business as usual (BAU) system issues
  • Provide subject matter expertise in cross functional projects

Process Improvement

  • Recommend improvements to valuation and reporting practices for financial instruments
  • Regularly review and ensure processes are accurate and efficient
  • Cross train with other team members and provide cover when necessary

Additional Duties

Qualifications

The successful candidate should have a thorough knowledge of valuation techniques and the reporting for different financial instruments, and should have 3-5 years of progressive experience in this field. The incumbent should have an undergraduate degree in finance / accounting. The following would be considered an asset for this role:

  • A CPA/CFA designation or equivalent or progress towards gaining one
  • Experience with Bloomberg or other market data providers
  • Experience with treasury management software and accounting software
  • Experience with financial models
  • Experience with IFRS and Hedge accounting would be an asset.
