Job Description

Reporting to the Director, Internal Audit, the Senior Internal Auditor is responsible for conducting risk-based internal audit and advisory services to support and enhance Central 1’s system of risk management, internal control and governance.
The Senior Internal Auditor will also be responsible for planning and executing financial, operational and compliance audits as well as recommending process & control improvements. Occasional travel to Central 1’s offices outside of BC will be
required.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Completing audits through the audit lifecycle in accordance with Central 1’s Audit Plan and Internal Audit processes and methodology.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness of risk mitigation and internal controls within business units.
  • Preparing audit findings, recommendations for resolution and providing advice on conformance with standards, compliance with legislation and regulations and internal policies.
  • Liaising with management and employees to monitor and follow up on audit findings and remediation action plans to ensure resolution.
  • Preparing audit finding summaries and updates for discussion with auditees and the Director, Internal Audit.
  • Preparing audit reports which will be sent to management and the Audit and Finance Committee of the Board of Directors.
  • Coordinating and facilitating audit activities with other assurance providers to ensure optimal audit coverage.
  • Supporting development of the risk-based Audit Plan.
  • Identifying opportunities to optimize the audit process and developing improvements to existing risk management approaches and audit methodologies, consistent with Institute of Internal Audit's International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (IIA Standards).

Qualifications

  • A degree or diploma in business or a related discipline.

  • A Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or willingness to obtain the designation.

  • An accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA or CPA) with 2 to 3 years of auditing and/or internal auditing experience or an equivalent combination of qualifications and experience.

  • Previous experience performing a wide variety of audit engagements, including financial, operational and compliance audits (experience broader than SOX/52-109 would be preferable).

  • Financial Industry internal audit experience would be considered beneficial, e.g. audits of treasury, investments, lending, payments processing, etc.

  • Solid business analytical skills and ability to understand complex business concepts, functions or processes, identify risks and mitigation activities, assess effectiveness of those activities and develop recommendations for issues identified.

  • Solid knowledge of the concepts, practices and techniques of risk based auditing (from planning through to reporting) and a solid understanding of relevant standards such as the Institute of Internal Auditors Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.

  • Experience with internal control, risk management and governance frameworks, standards and principles, e.g. COSO, COSO ERM, ISO 30000, etc.

  • Previous experience with SOX or National Instrument 52-109, Certification of Disclosure in Issuers’ Annual and Interim Filings, (C-SOX) compliance requirements would be beneficial.

  • Previous experience with IT environment and information systems governance and controls would be an asset.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to present information to a wide variety of end users and ability to exercise initiative are required.

  • Proven audit planning and project management skills in a multi-assignment environment.

  • Proficient with MS Office; knowledge of automated auditing or GRC software would be an asset.

  • Ability to work in a team and coordinate activities across functional teams.
