Job Description

Reporting to the Manager, Product Compliance & Design, the Regulatory and Compliance Analyst is responsible for delivering the key objectives of the Operations Manual Program (“the Program”). The individual hired for this role functions as a subject matter expert in financial services legal and compliance requirements, best practices and industry trends and their corresponding impacts on financial institution
operations.

You'll be primarily accountable for:

  • Acting as a subject matter expert for regulatory compliance requirements and issues that impact financial institutions;
  • Conducting regular reviews and analysis of relevant financial services industry legislation/regulations at a federal and provincial (BC and Ontario) level, and preparing summaries for the department manager, business relationship manager and Program subscribers;
  • Researching and providing authoritative advice and briefings to the department manager and the business relationship manager about financial services industry and compliance requirements;
  • Participating on internal committees and working groups (i.e. Central 1 Compliance Committee) to mitigate credit union system risk and Central 1 risk;
  • Providing direction to internal and external legal counsel regarding project work and assignments;
  • Managing the scope, schedule and delivery of assigned project work with differing levels of complexity, duration and conflicting deadlines from the initial planning stage to the final deliverable (publication);
  • Resolving subscriber inquiries regarding Program content and operational processes;
  • Mentoring and overseeing the work of junior staff;
  • Drafting Program based communication for subscribers and internal Central 1 departments;
  • Delivering training and operational guidance to Program subscribers ranging from one-to-one interactions to group settings, where each interaction is customized to meet the audience's knowledge level;
  • Contributing to the strategic direction of the Program and prioritization of projects and initiatives;
  • Identifying and recommending opportunities to streamline Program content and departmental processes with the objectives of continuous improvement and meeting the business needs of subscribers.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate has :

Education and Certification

  • An undergraduate degree in Finance, Business Administration, or Law and 5-7 years experience in a regulatory compliance or financial services role or an equivalent combination
    of education and experience;

  • Relevant professional certifications (CAMS, CFE, CRM) are desirable but not required;

Knowledge and Experience

  • Extensive experience reviewing, analyzing, and summarizing legislation, regulations and case law precedents that pertain to the broader financial services sector and credit unions; 

  • Diverse experience and deep understanding of the financial services industry, related core products and services, as well as operations; 

  • Extensive experience communicating complex regulatory requirements and resulting operational impacts both orally and in writing; 

  • Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail while working in an environment that is subject to frequent interruptions, changing priorities and conflicting deadlines; 

  • Demonstrated experience in a customer service environment in face to face and non-face to face interactions; 

  • Experience with project management and mentoring/supervising the work of junior staff;
