Job Description

This is a 100% remote work position within the United States. This position is not open to candidates residing in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, California, or the U.S. Territories.

SUMMARY

The Manager, Test Development position is responsible for managing test development for a large-scale English language proficiency test for grades K – 12. This includes supervision of a multi-person team of language testing specialists, coordination with managers of functional teams to ensure the delivery of final test forms, and ensuring adherence to rigorous quality control processes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Supervise and manage a team of test developers.
  • Develop and ensure adherence to timelines for test development.
  • Guide the development of item specifications.
  • Review and approve item specifications.
  • Review and approve test items during all phases of the item development process.
  • Ensure all quality control procedures are followed in the test development processes.
  • Refine, develop, and implement new procedures as needed.
  • Monitor the relationship between the tests and the standards upon which they are based.
  • Solicit and oversee implementation of feedback from funder, external reviewers, and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate work with Production and Tech Teams for item assembly.
  • Communicate with external project partners about progress on tasks.
  • Document decisions and processes.
  • Write reports, memos, and other documentation as needed.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required

  • MA/MS in language testing, applied linguistics, TESOL, or a related field and 4 or more years of experience, including supervisory experience, is required.
  • Experience in coordinating across functional teams, as well as managing the development of language proficiency test items (preferably for large-scale, standardized assessments) is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Expertise with Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to coordinate staff across multiple tasks to meet deadlines and quality control expectations
  • Ability to understand highly-complex test designs with multiple interconnected parts
  • Highly motivated, flexible, and able to show leadership in order to attain team goals
  • Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively in a fast-paced team environment
  • Strong attention to detail while maintaining sight of the big picture
  • Ability to bring an analytical as well as a creative approach to problem-solving
  • Strong organization, planning, and time management skills
  • Strong oral and interpersonal communication
  • Experience using style manuals
  • Experience with PreK–12 education and/or English Learner education is preferred.

COMPENSATION

Minimum Salary: $64,745 Annually

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to effectively communicate. The employee may be required to sit or stand in a stationary position for 50% of the time.
