Job Description

FUJIFILM Cellular Dynamics, Inc in Madison, WI is recruiting for a Senior Scientist - Quantitative Imaging to join our discovery research group. This newly created position requires a self-motivated individual with experience in driving imaging strategy and analysis.   Qualified individuals need to be inspired to support the development of discover research products and tools to support research endeavors.

In this role you will develop and lead robust image-based analysis, utilizing computational biology. In addition you will lead efforts on developing and enhancing FCDI’s understanding of organoid microenvironments with various iPSC cell lineages.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Build and drive growth of image analysis capabilities to support developmental of functional organoids and multi cell type co cultures with iPSC cells.
  2. Utilize and develop cutting edge image analysis techniques to understand and quantify changes in the development of vasculature, neuronal, hepatic, immunological cell lineages within an organoid system to recapitulate disease modelling and high throughput screening applications.
  3. Lead experimental design and write algorithms to accurately identify, segment, register, and quantify digital histopathology images and collaborate with external leaders in the field.
  4. Enhance imaging strategy through their knowledge of programming (C++, Python, Matlab and R), machine learning, data integration and implementation of novel technologies and methodologies.
  5. Share knowledge and educate teams on the latest immunohistochemistry techniques (IHC, multiplex IF, ISH, etc), imaging and computational tissue image analyses and on hands experience with confocal microscope such as (Nikon Ti 2 E confocal microscope).
  6. Write protocols, technical reports, SOPs and develop appropriate documentation and lead presentations with project team(s) and collaborators.
  7. Other job functions as assigned.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Immunology or Stem Cell Biology (preferred), Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field required, or Master’s in comparable field plus 3 years of relevant experience.
  • 3 years of additional and relevant experience in immunology and stem cell biology, with experience in the pharmaceutical industry or with a CRO supporting drug research and development, with demonstrated achievements and progressive responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in human iPSC or human ESC culture, including experience differentiating pluripotent stem cells towards an immune fate.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of differentiating iPSC to various cell lineages, familiarity with analytical methods centered around high-resolution imaging, bioinformatics.
  • Proficiency working within a large team with internal and external collaborators.
  • Demonstrated and effective communication skills, and proficiency working independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to share knowledge and educate teams on the latest immunohistochemistry techniques (IHC, multiplex IF, ISH, etc), imaging and computational tissue image analyses and on hands experience with confocal microscope ( Nikon Ti2-E confocal ),
  •  Ability to work in a dynamic, highly collaborative team environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Independent experimental design and execution.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with cell culture, flow cytometry, and molecular biology techniques.
  • Demonstrated work ethic, initiative, the ability to multi-task, and intellectual curiosity to new technical skills.
  • Overnight and international travel – 10%
  • Ability to work some weekends and off-hours work
  • Able to work at computer for extended periods of time
  • Able to work in laboratory hood for extended periods of time.
  • Able to work with hazardous materials (i.e. chemicals, electrical equipment and human tissue) without endangering oneself or others.
  • Able to wear standard laboratory PPE.
