Job Description

FUJIFILM Cellular Dynamics, Inc. (FCDI), located in Madison, WI, is recruiting for a Scientist to support the FDCI R&D Assay Development group.  Qualified individuals will have interests in cellular and molecular biology and have relevant experience in assay development, ideally with proven accomplishment in the use of human iPSC-derived cell types. A successful applicant will have a strong scientific background and keen understanding of developing, running and troubleshooting cell-based assays, including areas of cellular imaging, flow cytometry, molecular biology, and gene expression. Expertise with instrumentation is a plus.

This newly created role demands inspiration to find solutions for assay development endeavors in therapeutics to other Discovery Research products. The ideal candidate will have the ability to design assays, analyze data, establish robust assay protocol and transfer optimized assays to the FCDI Quality Control team. Essential Job Functions

  • Develop functional cell-based assays to determine quality, purity and performance of iPSC-derived cell types.
  •  Work independently as well as interact with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot existing products and create improved assay content.
  • Evaluate platform technologies and instrumentation for internal use or potential outsourcing opportunities.
  • Write protocols, technical reports, standard operating procedures, and appropriate documentation for processes.
  • Effectively communicate experimental results to the project team and present relevant data during cross-functional team meetings.
  •  Moderate cell culture work utilizing basic laboratory techniques to execute experiments in support of project objectives.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to work practices and the laboratory environment.
  • Other job functions as assigned.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, biomedical engineering, or related field, or Master’s degree in a comparable field plus 3 years of relevant experience;  or a Bachelor’s degree in comparable field plus 5 years of relevant experience will also be considered.
  • One year of relevant experience with assay platforms such as flow cytometry, gene expression and/or imaging, with demonstrated achievements and progressive responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated functional proficiency with imaging-based assays, along with knowledge of 2D and 3D cell culture or co-culture systems.
  • Demonstrated and effective communication skills, and proficiency working independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others in a cross-functional, matrix-style organization.
  • Demonstrated work ethic, initiative, the ability to multi-task, and intellectual curiosity to new technical skills.

  • Some weekend availability is required.
  • Able to work at computer, benchtop, and/or a laboratory hood for extended periods of time.
  • Able to work with hazardous materials (i.e. chemicals, electrical equipment, and human tissue) without endangering oneself or others.
  • Able to transport reagents and small equipment, as necessary (may require moderate lifting).
  • Able to wear standard laboratory PPE.
