Job Description

FUJIFILM Cellular Dynamics, Inc in Madison, WI is recruiting for a Scientist to join our Cardiovascular Discovery Research group. This position requires a self-motivated individual with experience in cell biology and molecular biology or related scientific or engineering field, who can contribute to our ongoing efforts to expand our capabilities with cardiovascular cell differentiation and characterization.  Qualified individuals need to be inspired to support the development of products and tools to support research and development endeavors.

In this role you will develop, maintain, differentiate, and characterize human pluripotent stem cells into various lineages for use in complex functional life science products and assays used to support research and development initiatives of customers.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Develop robust differentiation and characterization methods for human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived cell types, working with project teams. 
  2. Optimize processes and develop assays for iPSC-derived cells from multiple donors.
  3. Design and execute on experimental plans to achieve project goals within a given time constraint.
  4. Write protocols, technical reports, and SOPs, and develop appropriate documentation for processes.
  5. Participate in technology transfer of processes to the non-cGMP manufacturing group and non-cGMP QC group.
  6. Communicate experimental results to the project team(s).
  7. Other job functions as assigned.

Qualifications

  • PhD in stem cell biology, molecular biology, a closely scientific or engineering related field, or Master’s in comparable field plus 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Up to 1 year of additional and relevant experience in stem cell biology and cardiovascular biology in the pharmaceutical industry or with a CRO supporting drug research and development, with demonstrated achievements and progressive responsibilities
  • Demonstrated capabilities in human ESC or human iPSC culture, including experience differentiating pluripotent stem cells (Experience with cardiovascular lineage differentiation is desirable)
  • Demonstrated proficiency with cell culture, flow cytometry, and molecular biology methods. (Experience with RNAseq and single cell RNAseq data analysis is desirable)
  • Demonstrated proficiency with immunocytochemistry and imaging. (Experience with confocal microscopy and high content imaging is desirable).
  • Demonstrated work ethic, initiative, the ability to multi-task, and intellectual curiosity to new technical skills.
  • Demonstrated and effective communication skills, and proficiency working independently and as part of a team.
  • Some weekend work is required
  • Able to work at computer for extended periods of time
  • Able to work in laboratory hood for extended periods of time
  • Able to work with hazardous materials (i.e. chemicals, electrical equipment and human tissue) without endangering oneself or others
  • Able to wear standard laboratory PPE
