Cavista Holdings, a global investment and holding company dedicated to driving growth, innovation and impact is seeking an experienced government affairs leader to direct and shape the company’s engagement with U.S. government entities, policymakers and other external stakeholders including international entities. This individual will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive government and international affairs strategy to advance the companies’ objectives globally.

A successful leader with a broad understanding of U.S. and international business and expertise working in global markets is the ideal candidate. This role requires the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with a solution-driven approach while demonstrating professionalism, confidence, teamwork and responsiveness to deliver on key global business initiatives. This position serves as a strategic advisor to senior leadership, identifying opportunities to shape public policy, build strategic partnerships and support the company’s business development efforts in global markets, with particular emphasis in Africa.

This role is based in Washington, D.C. and will require regular international travel.

Job Description

Government Relations Strategy:  

  • Develop and implement a strategic government relations plan to advance Cavista Holdings’
  • business goals.
  • Monitor and analyze U.S. federal legislative and regulatory developments that may impact the companies’ operations and interests.
  • Proactively advocate for policies and regulations that support the growth and sustainability of the companies’ businesses globally.

Stakeholder Engagement and External Affairs:  

  • Establish and maintain relationships with key U.S. Members of Congress and their senior staff, federal and state officials, agencies, legislators, foreign governments, U.S. and foreign embassies, think tanks and business councils.
  • Engage with industry associations, advocacy groups, and other external stakeholders to advance the companies’ interests. 
  • Organize and represent the company at meetings, conferences, policy forums, hearings and events to advance the companies’ legislative and regulatory agenda.

International Affairs:

  • Monitor geopolitical, trade, economic and regulatory developments affecting Cavista’s international operations.
  • Support executive engagement with embassies, foreign governments and international organizations.
  • Support the company’s senior leadership efforts throughout Africa and emerging markets by identifying opportunities for public private partnerships, policy collaboration and commercial growth with government and international organizations.

​​​​​​​Lobbying and Advocacy:  

  • Work with internal and external teams to develop and execute strategies that promote the companies’ position on key issues. 
  • Prepare briefing materials, testimony, and position papers for use in government and industry engagements. 
  • Coordinate with external lobbyists and consultants to ensure alignment with the companies’ advocacy efforts. 

Strategic Partnership Development:  

  • Identify and pursue opportunities for partnerships with government agencies, industry associations, and other entities that align with the companies’ objectives. 
  • Lead negotiations and manage relationships with key partners to maximize the value of these collaborations. 

Regulatory Affairs:

  • Oversee the companies’ compliance with relevant U.S. regulations and ensure timely and effective responses to regulatory inquiries. 
  • Provide guidance to the companies’ leadership on regulatory risks and opportunities. 
  • Collaborate with internal legal and compliance teams to navigate complex regulatory environments. 

Communication and Reporting:  

  • This role will report to the Chairman of Cavista Holdings and will work closely with executive support teams in the organizations’ headquarters in both Lagos, Nigeria and Dallas, TX.
  • Provide regular updates to senior leadership on government relations activities and outcomes. 
  • Develop communication materials to effectively convey the companies’ positions to government and external audiences. 
  • Maintain accurate records of all government relations activities and interactions. 

 

Qualifications

What you bring

  • A passion for bridging the U.S. and Africa through mutually beneficial commerce.
  • Minimum of 10 years of proven experience in government affairs, international relations, or public affairs. Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Capitol Hill, government agency or corporate government relations experience is preferred.
  • Executive presence and the ability to confidently and credibly represent a global investment company’s interests.
  • Existing relationships across the U.S., African and international policy and business communities is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. Africa political and commercial relationships and emerging markets.
  • Experience working with U.S. government agencies such as the Department of Commerce, State, Agriculture, DFC or EXIM.
  • Demonstrated ability to strategize, plan, and execute initiatives to achieve specific advocacy objectives.
  • Ability to navigate complex political landscapes in the US and throughout Africa and build relationships at all levels.
  • Strong understanding of government structures, policy development processes, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to assess the impact of policies on the companies’ operations and make data-driven recommendations.
  • A proven record of successfully supporting global corporate communications. 
  • Team-oriented and results driven with strong implementation skills and follow-through. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, possess a strong ethical nature and contribute in a fast-paced environment managing multiple priories and tight deadlines.
