Our Catch22 College is the collective name for 8 sites we have across the country delivering academic and vocational training programmes for young people aged 16+ who, for whatever reason, are not suited to a mainstream college setting. Job Description

The Lead Teacher is responsible for providing strong educational leadership and high‑quality teaching within a supportive and aspirational College environment for young people aged 14–19, many of whom present complex needs and challenging behaviours. The role drives high standards of teaching, behaviour management, curriculum delivery, staff development and learner outcomes to ensure the site achieves consistently good or outstanding provision. This role requires a willingness to teach two days per week, with the remaining time dedicated to leadership and management responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities – Teaching 

  • Deliver high‑quality teaching (including Level 2 Maths and/or English) that meets learner needs and supports strong progress and achievement. 
  • Create an inspirational learning environment with high expectations for attendance, engagement, behaviour and outcomes. 
  • Plan, prepare and update schemes of work that meet curriculum, accreditation and inspection requirements. 
  • Use a wide range of teaching strategies adapted to individual needs and informed by strong curriculum knowledge. 
  • Assess learner progress, identify needs, oversee IEPs and guide learners toward clear targets for improvement. 

Key Responsibilities – Leadership & Management 

  • Lead behaviour management across the site, ensuring a safe, supportive and positive learning environment for all students. 
  • Manage and monitor performance data, identifying underperformance and taking timely actions to improve outcomes. 
  • Line manage teaching and support staff, overseeing contribution reviews, setting KPIs and developing staff capability. 
  • Lead the quality of teaching and learning, implementing observation processes and coaching staff to deliver outstanding practice.
  • Ensure safeguarding, compliance and statutory responsibilities are fully embedded and upheld across the team.

Qualifications

  • A recognised QTS qualification (or willing to work towards), .
  • Designated Safeguard Lead
  • Experience of working with a cohort of young people including those with complex, high behaviour and additional learning needs.
  • Line management experience, setting KPIs and conducting regular supervisions.
  • An extensive knowledge and understanding of how to use and adapt a range of teaching, learning and behaviour management strategies, including how to personalise learning to provide opportunities for all learners to achieve their potential.

Contract: Full-Time Permanent 

Hours per week: 37

Salary: £32,620 - £40,000
