The Hive is a holistic mental health and wellbeing service for young people aged 16 to 24 in Camden. The Hive is a safe and inclusive place to be, supporting the service as a whole to reach young people who do not readily seek help.  

Job Description

Main Duties & Accountabilities

The role will require flexibility and skills in adaptability and the appointed person will be expected to carry out tasks over all different areas within the service.

  • Provide appropriate specialist or targeted substance misuse support, and interventions to a pre-defined case load of young people who are referred by means of effective assessment, care planning and risk management.

·       Support young people where required through referral and support to access:

o   Prescribing services

o   Appropriate health services including mental health, sexual health and BBV services and to facilitate the offer of personalised Hep B/C tests for certain clients.

o   Any other service to meet the young person’s individual needs and achieve positive outcomes.

 

·     Ensure that all records, activities and outcomes are documented and maintained accurately, in a timely manner in line with Catch22 service, standards and requirements.

 

·     Regularly review and take part in Catch22 audits of case files, ensuring all learning from these are implemented.

·     Develop, monitor, evaluate and report on; care plans, YPORS, risk assessments and outcomes throughout the young person’s treatment journey providing appropriate care and support of individuals accessing the service.

·       Provide advice to parents and carers of service users and those wishing to access our services.

·       Promote and support service user involvement through facilitation of service user groups and activities. Ensure that participation and feedback from the young people contributes to the service development.

·       Work within partnership working protocols with other agencies and promote effective dialogue, referral and care pathways between agencies, families and schools.

·       Work in partnership and ensure effective relationships with Children and Families services (CFS) and other local agencies and treatment providers

·       To liaise effectively with local partner organisations and other relevant agencies to ensure effective referrals, care and risk management as well as ease of transition and referral for young people and to promote the continued  joint work of the service and other partners.

·       Provide advice, support and guidance for professionals working with young people. Delivery of presentations and training, attending health fairs and events as appropriate.

·       Provide harm minimisation and drugs education activities and support for individuals and groups in schools and other services, engaging young people in accessing structured treatment if required. 

·       Be an active member of the service team attending meetings and training events as necessary.

·       Ensure that the project promotes and reflects equality of opportunity and diversity at all levels.

·       To manage your time and activities safely and effectively, to meet with the priorities and delivery requirements of Catch22; contributing to achieving the standards of care, quality and positive outcomes required

·       Represent and promote where appropriate, the service and Catch22 at local events and meetings.

·       Maintain and update professional knowledge and competencies ensuring that you are up-to date on all relevant Catch22 policies and procedures and are working in line with local and governmental frameworks such as Public Health England, Safeguarding etc.  

·       Comply with Catch22 Health and Safety policies and procedures

·   To share best practice both within Catch22 and externally with relevant agencies.

 

This is not an exhaustive list of tasks. The post-holder will be asked to undertake other ad hoc tasks commensurate with the scope and purpose of this post. As duties and responsibilities change and develop the job description will be reviewed and be subject to amendment in consultation with the post-holder.

 

 

Organisational Relationships

 

 

·       Reporting Catch22 Service Coordinator

 

·       Work alongside and develop effective relationships with other service staff, both within Wandsworth Council, the Local community and Catch22 as a whole.
 

Specific requirements of the job

In carrying out the above activities, the counsellor will:

  • Participate in core Catch22 and external training and staff development programmes as required.
  • Be willing to work flexible hours, including after school hours and weekends.
  • Seek to improve personal performance and contribution.
  • Ensure the implementation of Catch22 Equal Opportunities Policy in its widest sense.
  • To undertake other relevant duties as may be required from time to time.

·       Relevant professional qualification in substance misuse

·       Relevant qualification in youth work studies.

·       Counselling qualification and/ or skills

 

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

·       Minimum of 2 years’ experience of working with young people in a treatment and/ or prescribing setting for substance use/ misuse

·       Experience of working with challenging and hard to engage young people

·       Working with young people in group and one-to-one settings.

·       Experience of delivering one to one interventions and group work to young people

·       Excellent working knowledge of alcohol, drugs and their effects

·       Knowledge of issues around substance misuse amongst young people.

·       An awareness of the current issues relating to at risk and vulnerable young people.

·       Knowledge of engagement and intervention strategies.

·       Knowledge of Every Child Matters and other appropriate youth policies.

·       Skills/ experience in Inter-agency working.

·       Training/group work – information education delivery.

·       Specialist Alcohol Knowledge

Additional Information

Salary: £26,000 pro rata  including London Allowance
