Our Suffolk Mentoring, Reparation and Unpaid work service works with Young people who may have offended and who find themselves in difficult situations. They are supported by volunteers to

  • remain in education
  • progress into training or further education
  • improve relationships with the local community
  • access local activities to improve health and wellbeing
  • build confidence and self-esteem.

Mentors are matched to young people depending on what the young person needs help with and the volunteer mentor’s own strengths and experiences.

Job Description

We are looking for Reparation Officers to join our Suffolk Mentoring, Reparation and Unpaid work service. As a Reparation Officer, you will be working with Young people who may have offended and who find themselves in difficult situations.

Catch22 Reparation Officers work in partnership with Suffolk Youth Justice Service supervising and working alongside young offenders in their local communities. As a sessional reparation officer, you may be working indoors or outdoors on a variety of activities from leaflet dropping to gardening.

As a Reparation Officer, you will:

  • Work with victims, young offenders and their families facilitating direct and in direct reparation
  • Identify and arrange appropriate opportunities for community reparation that are suitable for young people aged 10-18 when reparation direct to the victim is not possible.
  • Undertake assessments and supervision of young offenders carrying out reparation.
  • Undertake regular Health and Safety risk assessments of reparation sites and monitor the quality of the individual placements by undertaking site visits and carry out exit interviews with young people.
  • Take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of young people and volunteers involved in the service.
  • Ensure effective, timely and efficient record keeping.
  • Liaise with Suffolk Youth Justice Service
  • Communicate effectively with all service users, colleagues, professionals and visitors to the project.
  • Attend regular supervision sessions with the area service coordinator.
  • Participate in required training
  • Assist in the development of volunteers advising on Catch22's practices, processes and procedures.
  • Prepare reports and case studies as requested.
  • Provide cover for the team due to sickness, annual leave etc. or for other members of the locality team where possible.
  • Attend Catch22 and service training events as required.
  • Undertake other activities as specified by the project coordinator.

 

Qualifications

You don't need to have previous experience in this area, but you do need a positive attitude to work and be prepared to 'muck in'.The ability to build effective relationships, be non-judgemental and empathic will be key, as will being confident in setting boundaries with our young people

Essential Qualifications

  • Any relevant qualifications i.e GCSE, A-Level, B-TEC, NVQ, youth work
  • Full driving license required 

Desirable Qualifications  

  • First Aid certificate
  • Health and Safety training

Additional Information

Salary: Sessional, £8.50 per hour

Hours: Sessional (no gauranteed hours) but work will include weekends.

This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
