Job Description

To coordinate and direct, with the support of the Academic Dean, the academic and administrative activities of the programs of his Department both in the Bayamon Campus and in the University Centers.

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

The Department Directors will respond to the Academic Dean of the Campus, being responsible for the academic performance of the programs under their care, for the teaching and curricular evaluation, for the continuous improvement of the faculty, for the offer of courses in in-person, blended and virtual modes, and promote research as a means of finding knowledge among students and faculty. Its general functions in the teaching-administrative area are framed in the following responsibilities:

 

  1. Collaborate and support the execution of the academic functions of the Academic Dean in the achievement of institutional goals and objective.
  2. Together with the Academic Dean, they will advise and guide the teaching staff in curricular aspects, seeking the incorporation of up-to-date and innovative knowledge.
  3. Coordinate academic counseling to students in a way that contributes to the achievement of the student curriculum of the programs.
  4. Coordinate the academic programs that are assigned, and ensure their proper execution.
  5. Coordinate and collaborate in the implementation of the assessment processes related to the academic programs under their responsibility and recommend changes or adjustments necessary for the achievement of the institutional objectives.

Administrative:

  1. Encourage and promote the achievement and fulfillment of the Vision, Mission and Strategic Institutional Goals contained in the Annual Work Plan of the Academic Vice Presidency and the Institutional Strategic Plan.
  2. Develop an annual work plan aligned with institutional academic priorities.
  3. Prepare and/or follow up the requested reports.
  4. Recommend the acquisition of books, equipment and educational materials.
  5. Evaluate and recommend the purchase of educational equipment and materials for their programs.
  6. Maintain an inventory of equipment and materials for each program.
  7. Coordinate the research program for the faculty and students of the programs.
  8. Direct the search of external funds in the state and federal agencies for the improvement of the processes of teaching-learning and scientific research through the writing of proposals.
  9. Supervise and evaluate the coordinators of the programs of the Department both in the Campus and in the academic units.

Curricular:

  1. Coordinate curricular program review activities including chart review.
  2. Coordinate and submit to the Academic Dean the programming of courses without faculty by term, as applicable.
  3. Coordinate activities of the programmatic and classroom assessment plan.
  4. Coordinate the preparation and administration of departmental, comprehensive examinations, etc.
  5. Propose strategies and educational techniques that contribute to the achievement of institutional objectives.
  6. Orient teachers regarding curriculum development in the area (charts, evaluation strategies, etc.).

Students:

  1. Coordinate admission interviews to the programs.
  2. Coordinate the implementation of the academic counseling plan to the students of the programs.
  3. Collaborate in the implementation of the retention plan.
  4. Promote the participation of students in student associations related to their specialty.

Faculty:

  1. Interview and recommend the hiring and/or renewal of teachers of partial and complete homework.
  2. Collaborate in the faculty assessment process.
  3. Coordinate regular meetings with the faculty.
  4. Coordinate professional development activities for the faculty of programs.
  5. Coordinate the allocation of students with the faculty for academic counseling.
  6. Follow up the faculty on reports that are required (NA, AD, Mid-Term).

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Doctorado preferiblemente en Ingeniera Electrica o Civil de una Universidad o Institución acreditada
  • Coordina y dirige las actividades académicas y administrativas de los programas bajo su supervisión con el apoyo del Decano(a)-Académico(a)  
  • Administrar y utilizar procesos administrativos inherentes a su cargo por métodos manuales y electrónicos
  • Conocimiento en Educación a Distancia, "Colleague" y Canvas
  • Habilidad para transmitir conocimientos, trabajar en equipo y tomar decisiones, entre otros
  • Experiencia en el desarrollo de programas académicos en sus diferentes modalidades
  • Conocimiento en procesos de acreditación
  • Capacidad para resolver problemas con actitud positiva, tolerancia y resistencia al trabajo bajo presión
  • Actitud analítica y crítica para administrar procesos educativos
  • Mantenerse al día en su profesión mediante educación continua
  • Bilingüe (Español, Inglés)
  • Disponibilidad de horarios extendidos y fines de semana
  • Disponibilidad para viajar dentro y fuera de Puerto Rico
