Job Description

The duties and responsibilities of the EHS role are to:

  • Establish a strong, working relationship with the Facility & Maintenance leaders as the Functional Manager for this position.
    • In addition to daily interactions, establish weekly meeting to exchange information about the site activities, needs for support, risks, upcoming EHS related events, e.g. audits, training, inspections, etc.
    • Support Maintenance team members with Genusus training requirements & other ILT and outside training.

· Establish, maintain and support the site’s safety/ergonomics committee.

o  Vendor management for sharps, first aid cabinets, AED/Oxygen, machine guarding, etc.

· Track facility specific EHS performance and compliance metrics and communicate EHS goals to all site employees.

o Monthly safety updates

o Develop & maintain the RAIL for Near Misses/Safety suggestions

· Ensure EHS metrics are reported monthly to Corporate.

· Complete the appropriate personal and personnel training to remain compliant to current requirements.

o Audio & Vision testing, coordinate respiratory testing & training, First Aid, CPR/AED, BBP

· Update the learning management system training modules as required; release new required training courses and dates to maintain compliance with CalOSHA, Federal and Corporate requirements.

o Work with HR to create the New Hire Safety Training schedule and provide communications and training.

· Conduct workplace EHS & JSA assessments in current state and as operations change to ensure safety requirements are in place at all times.

· Ensure environmental and safety priorities have been established consistent with assessments, audits and the facility policy.

· Ensure that the facility is in compliance with applicable environmental and safety requirements (customer, legal, corporate, other).

o Perform EHS PM activities monthly - SPCC, SWPPP, AED’s Eye wash & shower stations.

o Water sampling during rain events

o Managing vendor safety: Contractor Work Safety Authorization forms & vendor safety orientations before work starts.

· Incorporate environmental and safety concerns into standard operating procedures, maintenance work orders, TPM, etc.

· Assess the environmental impact of facility operations, existing and new chemicals/ products. Make recommendations relative to associated safety and environmental requirements.

o Perform weekly Chemical Storage container inventory & inspection for hazardous waste container conditions, grounding, labeling and volumes.

o Perform weekly hazardous materials storage inspection (batteries, universal waste, satellite accumulation bins)

· Provide written instruction to guide environmental and safety performance as needed throughout the facility.

· Represent the site during regular and unannounced audits and agency visits.

· Establish and implement corrective action procedures for noncompliance situations and obstacles to improvement.

· Develop standard evaluation and communication processes to ensure customer requirements are given appropriate priority.

· Identify all legal, environmental and safety requirements applicable to the facility.

· Establish and maintain written programs/procedures/policies for compliance programs (hazard communications, spill preventions, etc.).

· Prepare and submit regulatory reports to local, state, federal and corporate entities as required.

· Monitor legislative changes and make recommendations based on their potential impact to the business.

· Write and implement procedures to achieve EHS priorities.

· Ensure that a formal document management process is in place to meet all audit requirements.

· Achieve continual improvement of the EHS management system and EHS performance.


Education:

Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering/Science or related field.

Advanced, professional EHS certification is desired.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering/Science or related field.

Professional EHS certification is desired.
