CARE began working in Zimbabwe in 1992 in response to a severe regional drought. After establishing a drought mitigation program, CARE began longer term developmental programs with local partners in building small dams, strengthening local microfinance institutions, and launching projects to assist small businesspersons in the rural areas.

CARE Zimbabwe’s overall goal is to empower disadvantaged and poor households to meet their basic needs. Programs promote sustainable livelihoods of poor and vulnerable people.

Job Description

To build internal and external VSL technical capacity in line with specific project needs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
•    Receives and Reviews project documents such as proposals, logframes, project Annual Operating Plan (AOP) from Project Manager
•    Develops sub-operational strategies for project implementation
•    Develops Individual Operating Plan (IOP) in line with project AOP and VSL operational action plan and submits to Project Manager
•    Conducts partner VSL capacity assessments and technical coaching and mentoring for VSL projects to staff and CARE partners
•    Orients partner management on VSL methodology and conducts TOT on VSL methodology for CARE and partner Staff 
•    Develops VSL capacity development plans and materials for partners and CARE staff 
•    Provides technical input into VSL monitoring and evaluation (M&E) issues such as development of M&E tools
•    Supports communities in rolling out Community Visioning
•    Communicates project progress to partners including financial performance of VSL groups 
•    Checks adherence to technical contractual agreements of the project and recommends for corrective action
•    Participates in technical working group meeting for ENSURE
•    Compiles and submits monthly VSL project summary reports including VSL MIS, to Agriculture and Livelihoods Manager
•    Monitors and documents performance of various actors along value chains
•    Participates in the development of concept notes and project proposal through program design discussions as part of the project design team
•    Provides specific technical input into the program design
•    Participate in rapid assessment or pre-testing of ideas as part of program development
 

Qualifications

•    Degree in Development studies/Entrepreneurship/Social Sciences/Economics/Sociology/Adult Education or equivalent
•    4-5 years’ experience in Community development with savings clubs /Adult training or other related field
•    Proficiency in computer skills including experience of MS Word, Excel, MS Office Project,
•    Understanding and demonstrated commitment to the importance of gender and youth issues in food security programming.
