Where and how you can work

Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

• You’ll shape, drive and deliver new capabilities and features to the Apps SDK to support app features
• You’ll design public APIs, balancing good design, extensibility, ease of use & delivery, with versioning and migrations, and supporting old versions with deprecation periods
• You’ll add public APIs on internal core features requires aligning closely with core Canva teams, ensuring underlying code and data structures are exposed correctly, allowing for real time multi-user collaboration, and without compromising future core feature development or architecture changes
• You’ll advocate within your team & group for advancing the security posture of our capabilities, including assisting with threat modelling, following industry best practice, aligning to standards and informing roadmap and prioritisation decisions.
• You’ll design, develop and deploy solutions and hands-on software development – working closely and collaboratively with leads, designers, and product managers to deliver features and experiments to our customers worldwide; communicating effectively across Canva seeking and incorporating diverse perspectives to address complex issues
• You’ll facilitate knowledge sharing and effectively advocate for engineering needs to non-technical stakeholders within the group
• You’ll model initiative and ownership in achieving goals, improving processes and solutions
• You’ll identify opportunities for cross-team collaboration to work on new ideas and improvements that help achieving our goals

You're probably a match if

• You will be at home working in our core technology environment - our core stack is JavaScript, HTML, CSS
• You are firmly grounded computer science and engineering fundamentals including concurrency, multithreading, data structures, solution design, architecture, and design patterns
• You have knowledge or experience aligning with security best practice & activities such as threat modelling
• You have experience with implementing authentication/authorisation specifications as a client or identity provider - (OAuth/OIDC a bonus)
• You work collaboratively with team members and communicating effectively
• You’ll have Experience designing easy to use APIs with versioning
• You have experience with TypeScript (or other typed languages), React, MobX (or other state management libraries), particularly using types on APIs to provide guard rails for developers
• You have an interest in focusing on integration code rather than UI code
• You have the ability to write performant, integration code, including appropriate testing

We aim to build the world’s richest Ecosystem of apps and integrations for visual design and communications that supercharge Canva’s ability to meet the diverse needs of a billion users and drive Canva’s MAU growth.

With the proliferation of innovations in generative AI and as large organizations have increasingly complex workflows to manage their designs, Canva is well poised to become the platform that simplifies access and discovery of services related to visual design. We are already working with hundreds of developers to enable access to these exciting products with our Apps SDK and Canva public REST API!

As one of the teams in Ecosystem, the Platform, Asset & User Capabilities team grants app developers the ability to integrate with external systems through auth flows, as well as import assets from these services.
