Job Description

Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.

Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!

Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.

Where and how you can work

Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work, we trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

Canva is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Employment Counsel to contribute to the continued growth and success of our organisation. While most of your day-to-day work will involve advising on a broad range of Australian employment law issues, you’ll also get the chance to work closely with key stakeholders on matters across the region (and globally!).

If you’re an employment lawyer with a commercial and entrepreneurial mindset who thrives in a fast-paced and often unstructured environment, this is your opportunity!

At the moment, this role is focused on:

  • Providing pragmatic advice and solutions on all aspects of the employment lifecycle to key stakeholders, including People Partners, Talent Acquisition and People Operations
  • Keeping on top of the latest employment law developments across the region, thinking about how they’ll affect Canva, and educating the Legal and People teams as needed
  • Helping to build and implement scalable, world-class employment policies and programs that balance legal risk with business impact
  • Getting involved in strategic cross-border initiatives, collaborating with other lawyers and stakeholders to bring our crazy big goals to life
  • Being a part of our efforts to continuously improve our internal processes and ways of working
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders to ensure compliance with employment laws across the region

You're probably a match if

  • You have 4+ years of experience advising on employment law in Australia. In-house experience, particularly in the tech sector, would be amazing!
  • You are capable of working autonomously, but also love collaborating with others too
  • You can effectively juggle multiple competing tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • You are not just an excellent lawyer, but a good human too - Canva’s values are important to us!
  • You have proven experience partnering with or advising HR teams and other stakeholders on a broad range of employment matters
  • You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and can help us make complex things simple

About the team

You’ll sit within our amazing APAC Employment Legal Team, which is part of a larger global team, with a presence in the US and Europe!

What's in it for you?

Achieving our crazy big goals motivates us to work hard - and we do - but you'll experience lots of moments of magic, connectivity and fun woven throughout life at Canva, too. We also offer a range of benefits to set you up for every success in and outside of work.

Here's a taste of what's on offer:

  • Equity packages - we want our success to be yours too
  • Inclusive parental leave policy that supports all parents & carers
  • An annual Vibe & Thrive allowance to support your wellbeing, social connection, office setup & more
  • Flexible leave options that empower you to be a force for good, take time to recharge and supports you personally
