About the team
Our Tax team’s mission is to modernise a traditional tax cost centre into “Tax-as-a-Partner” to ‘protect and serve’ the business, the needs of our employees, our investors, global Government and Tax Authorities where we operate, and ultimately the users of Canva’s amazing product.

What you’ll be doing in this role
We’re seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Indirect Tax Manager to join our dynamic team. You’ll have a strong background in indirect tax compliance, accounting for indirect taxes, preparing commercially focused indirect tax advice, an aptitude for project management and utilising technology and automation. The ideal candidate will have experience in both private and public companies. You will be hands-on, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day indirect tax operations of the company in the US, Canada and Latin America, ensuring compliance, transparency and accuracy. Your expertise will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our processes and policies support the scale and complexity of a rapidly-expanding company.
At the moment, the role is focused on:
- Overseeing the timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual indirect tax compliance obligations in the US, Canada and Latin America.
- Delivering global accounting and reporting of indirect taxes for financial statement purposes, including reconciling and supporting any provision balances.
- Assessing and mitigating indirect tax risks, providing recommendations for improvement and optimisation through the use of technology and automation to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Driving collaboration across departments to enhance cross-functional understanding of indirect tax.
- Diving into complex indirect tax technical matters to develop and implement solutions for critical business needs, drafting position papers and being a key point of contact for indirect tax matters within your scope of responsibility.
- Supporting the development and implementation of indirect tax strategies that align with business objectives
- Taking your continuous learning style to the next level as you plunge into the ever changing indirect tax developments around the world to help identify and address impacts to Canva.
You’re probably a match if you have:
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive momentum across critical projects
- An eye for detail, with excellent analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills
- Proven experience in US sales and use tax compliance, technical advisory (including digital services tax) and driving strategies from MVP to high fidelity solutions. Experience with Canadian and LATAM indirect taxes would be a bonus.
- The ability to work independently to develop and drive projects and compliance to completion as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Implemented AI into your day-to-day ways of working in your current role and are already thinking about new ways that AI can amplify your impact
- Proficiency in financial softwares and systems; experience with Netsuite and Fonoa would be a valued asset!

The target salary range for this position is $166,000 - $245,000. When calculating offers, we make salary decisions based on market data and candidates' skills and experience.
