AI Localisation Specialist

  • Full-time
  • Recruitment type: Permanent

Job Description

Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.

Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!
Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.

Where and how you can work

Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces across Australia. But you have choice in where and how you work. We trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.

What you'd be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

  • Driving the Design School MVP project, managing stakeholders, agency partners, and deadlines to achieve the agreed KPIs of the project
  • Utilising your expertise in generative AI to create efficiencies in the dubbing and subtitling aspects of the Design School MVP by advising on the procurement, set up, and deployment of the most appropriate tools
  • Working with other localisation specialists and language experts to safely roll out AI translation capabilities across a range of media (e.g. supporting with training AI engines, planning effective evaluations, and selecting and cleaning datasets)

You're probably a match if

  • You have deep expertise in localisation and AI concepts such as RAG, COMET, BLEU, and MQM as well as localisation technologies such as post-edited machine translation
  • You have a track record of delivering on complex programmes of work with varied stakeholders and KPIs
  • You understand the needs of LOTE customers and the opportunities available to meet those needs, ideally from experience working in a localisation/internationalisation environment within a SaaS company
  • You love taking things from chaos to clarity — you’re a natural at understanding ambiguous, complex problems and communicating them briefly and simply to others through documents and visual communication
  • You have the drive to see things through despite changes and setbacks
  • You’re great with tech (Atlassian project management tools, basic web development) and you write a mean doc
  • Speaking multiple languages is a huge bonus, as is vendor-side experience with localisation

About the team

The Localisation group is responsible for the localisation of Canva’s product, marketing, and content as well as the tools, processes, and assets that make this mission possible. We sit within the Global Content and Discovery supergroup but we work closely with stakeholders across the whole organisation — from customer support and sales through to our AI features and the core editing product.

Localisation is made up of localisation specialists, designers, and language managers (native speaker language experts) who work across the business to achieve our mission of equipping all Canvanauts with the best practices, insights and processes they need to go global.

Every month, more than 100 million Canva users create a design in one of the 100 languages other than English that Canva supports. The localisation specialty is made up of three  teams of linguists, project managers, and designers distributed throughout the company with a mission of celebrating the diversity of our growing base of global users and making their Canva experiences delightful.

This mission involves everything from developing a vision for the global user experience, through procuring translation services via agencies, to maintaining localisation infrastructure roadmaps. If you join us, you’ll be involved in all stages of the development cycle in world-class product teams.

This role will focus on leveraging AI to drive efficiency in Canva localisation program, starting with a large-scale media localisation project involving dubbing and subtitling education and user onboarding content. You’ll bring subject matter expertise and strong organisational skills to this project, collaborating with stakeholders from partner teams and delivering against challenging timelines.
