Where and how you can work
Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.
What you’d be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
- Build efficient, reusable frontend abstractions and systems that help platformise Canva’s product experience
- Define and drive the team’s technical roadmap in partnership with the subgroup lead and product engineering stakeholders.
- Identify and champion improvements to frontend engineering practices, patterns and methodologies
- Mentor and guide engineers in the tema, fostering strong technical craft and pragmatic decision-making.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and ensure seamless integration of frontend libraries across the product
Team Overview
The Frontend Core Libraries team is dedicated to empowering Canva's frontend developers by maintaining and enhancing our essential libraries like React and MobX. Our mission is to ensure that these powerful tools are utilised to their fullest potential, which sometimes involves delving deep into their internal source code to optimise performance and integrate new features seamlessly. We are committed to pushing the boundaries of frontend development, providing robust and efficient solutions that enhance user experience across the board.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to blaze a path forward for projects like
- implementing and delivering JavaScript based RPC clients for our web pages
- paving the path for a robus data layer at Canva
- pushing forward experimenting with React Server Components and driving it’s adoption across Canva’s web stack

Qualifications
We'd love to hear from you if you fit one or more of these:
- You're at home working in our core web technology environment - HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, MobX (or other state management libraries)
- Strong understanding of first party and third party libraries in a large scale organisation with numerous consumers and how usage contribute towards the health, maintenance and performance of a product
- You’re equipped to tackle both frontend and backend architecture, allowing you to drive full-stack improvements
- You do not shy away from driving a knarly undefined problem with high technical complexity towards clarity
- Experience collaborating with other engineering teams to build great solutions that suit everyone’s needs within a platform team
- You are proactive in initiating conversations with teams (both product and platform natured) to gain context, drive your initiatives and course correct cross team projects.
- You’ve perfected the balance between big-picture technical thinking and nailing the details
