Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.
Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!
Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.
Where and how you can work
Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work, we trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.
What you’d be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
At the moment, this role is focused on:
- Deeply understand the needs and workflows of platform engineers and other consumers of the infrastructure platform at Canva
- Write tools, services, configuration and whatever else is required to ensure that platform engineers have a low friction experience shipping new services and capabilities
- Consult with internal users and other platform teams to bring clarity and alignment
- Take on ownership of our existing configuration frameworks and other infrastructure abstraction tools that help platform engineers expose new platform capabilities to users
- Participate in planning rituals at the team and group level to ensure that the needs of platform engineers and infrastructure consumers are prioritised
- Work alongside product managers to bring a product mindset to platform engineering at Canva
You're probably a match if
- You have strong Computer Engineering / Science knowledge around fundamentals and first principles relating to concurrency, multithreading, data structures, architecture, and various design patterns
- You have strong experience with the Python and Go programming languages
- You have experience with Kubernetes, ideally including Custom Resource Definitions
- You have experience with AWS (and as a plus, GCP) cloud environments
- Prior work in a platform engineering capacity is desired but not required
- You have experience with AI tooling for use with software engineering, such as Copilot or Claude Code
- You have excellent communication and stakeholder engagement
- You may benefit from prior experience as a consultant, business analyst, or developer advocate
About the team
This role is part of the Platform Workflows team inside the Developer Workflows subgroup. We empower platform engineers to deliver value quickly, safely, and confidently. Through developer advocacy and a product mindset, we build workflows that accelerate platform development, ensuring that the platform can rapidly evolve to meet the needs of all engineers. We compose solutions from a broad set of platform capabilities, and request new features from platform capability teams where needed. Our end-to-end workflows target both other platform engineers, and broader users of our infrastructure platform.
This role is a unique blend of developer advocacy, product management and platform engineering. While all team members are software engineers and continue to write code day-to-day, our impact is also realised by our ability to consult with users, understand their needs, and ensure that downstream platform teams are aware of these requirements and are shaping their roadmaps accordingly. We deliver value to the business by ensuring that platform engineers have all the tools and systems at their disposal to rapidly iterate on the platform and deliver new capabilities in response to changing business needs. This role requires a level of customer empathy and consulting ability not usually seen in typical software engineering roles.
