Job Description
Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.
Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!
Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.
Where and how you can work
Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.
What you’d be doing in this role
Canva is constantly evolving, and so is this role. While your initial focus will be on product data science, the scope may expand as we scale. Your primary responsibility will be to track performance, identify growth opportunities, and provide actionable recommendations that shape the product roadmap.
Currently, your work will center on:
- Uncovering strategic insights. You'll combine deep product knowledge with data analysis to identify opportunities for growth and feature improvements.
- Designing and analyzing experiments. You’ll craft experiments to test hypotheses drawn from user research and data insights, then analyze results to inform product decisions.
- Defining and influencing with metrics. You’ll create and refine goal metrics, forecast targets, and design analytic events to track feature usage. You’ll also develop dashboards that monitor performance and diagnose issues, ensuring data-driven decision-making.
- Providing data for decision-making. You’ll support teams by delivering insights on feature usage, ensuring they have the context needed to make informed choices. Additionally, you’ll explore ways to improve efficiency through automation and self-serve analytics.
This role is designed for someone who thrives in a fast-moving environment and is eager to turn data into meaningful impact. While these responsibilities outline your initial focus, expect the role to evolve as Canva continues to grow.
You're probably a match if you
- Drive impact with data. You have a proven track record of using data to influence business decisions and contribute directly to company growth.
- Excel in core data science skills. You approach problems with a hypothesis-driven mindset, effectively use SQL to extract and manipulate data, think numerically, design and forecast goal metrics, uncover strategic insights, and communicate findings through compelling data storytelling.
- Demonstrate key soft skills. You prioritize accuracy, interpret data faithfully, communicate persuasively in both written and spoken formats, and present complex ideas clearly and concisely.
- Bring additional technical expertise. You have experience with experimentation, designing analytic events, and working with data warehousing solutions.
- Have a strong analytical foundation. You may have a background in mathematics, statistics, or a STEM-related field.
- Understand the dynamics of tech companies. You are familiar with key industry concepts such as growth accounting, product funnels, and event instrumentation.
- Have hands-on experience with large-scale data. You’re proficient in Python or R and have worked with large datasets in a professional setting.
About the team
At Canva, our mission is to empower the world to design, and data plays a critical role in making that possible. We’re looking for data scientists who can provide meaningful insights to guide product development and enhance user experience.

Our team builds features that help users stay on-brand seamlessly—core functionalities that drive Canva’s revenue and are essential to our enterprise growth strategy, such as the Brand Kit, Resize & Magic Switch, and Bulk Create.
As a senior data scientist in this group, you’ll be embedded within a cross-functional team, working closely with product managers, designers, researchers, and engineers. Your role will be to analyze data, generate insights, and influence product decisions to refine and improve the features within your team’s scope.
While embedded in the business, you’ll also be part of a broader central data team, where we collaborate on priorities, share best practices, and learn from each other. This structure ensures that data remains both deeply integrated into product development and strategically aligned across the company.
