Canam Steel Corporation is a major US manufacturer of open web steel joists and steel deck.  The company participates in thousands of projects each year ranging from large distribution centers and high rise projects, to small retail centers.  The steel joist business in the US dates back to 1986 as a partnership with Canam Group and our steel deck business was launched by an acquisition of the United Steel Deck brand in 2010.  The Corporation currently operates six fabrication facilities, several sales and engineering offices, and employs approximately 800 people across the United States.

Analyzes and interprets contract drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare cost estimates for steel joist & deck products, projects, or services.  Consult with customers, vendors, or other key individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.  Keen eye for detail and a quick worker.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Reviews contract documents to determine material requirements and prepares itemized lists.
• Utilizes BlueBeam to conduct efficient takeoffs.
• Communicates with Canam sales representatives, customers, and engineers to clarify discrepancies or questions in the contract documents to ensure an accurate estimate.
• Prepares scope of work along with all exclusions, clarifications and conditions.  Lists all bid documents with dates used in preparation of estimate.
• Inputs material takeoffs into Canam design and pricing software to generate a proposal for the sales representative.
• Identifies opportunities for value engineering to enhance the overall proposal to the customer.
• Performs other job duties as assigned by supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Associates Degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.  Experience may substitute for education.
• Minimum 2 years related experience preferred, but not required.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Working knowledge of engineering and design concepts in the structural steel and joist & deck industry. 
• PC skills to include the following software:  MS Word, Excel, GSuite, BlueBeam, & Canam Design and Pricing programs.
