Canam Steel Corporation is a major US manufacturer of open web steel joists and steel deck.  The company participates in thousands of projects each year ranging from large distribution centers and high rise projects, to small retail centers.  The steel joist business in the US dates back to 1973 as a partnership with Canam Group and our steel deck business was launched by an acquisition of the United Steel Deck brand in 2010.  The Corporation currently operates six fabrication facilities, several sales and engineering offices, and employs approximately 800 people across the United States.

We are looking for self-motivated and safety-conscious candidates who would like to join our production team.

Tack Welder (Assembler):
Place and tack weld steel component parts to fabricate finished products including steel joists and girders on a fast-paced assembly line. Must be able to learn to tack weld.

Production Welders:
Perform fillet welds on pre-assembled products on a fast-paced assembly line. Must be able to weld. 1 – 6 months of MIG welding experience preferred.

Preparation:
Operate various machines including shears, presses, punches, benders, etc. to prepare raw material for assembly. Must manually handle and maneuver large pieces of steel to load machines.

All positions require team members to learn to read/use a tape measure and be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and verbal instructions.

The nature of the production operation will require you to perform a wide range of physical activities including continuous standing, walking, continuous use of hands/arms to grasp and hold, push/pull, carry, flip and otherwise maneuver tools, raw material and product of various lengths and weights up to 60 pounds (greater for some positions). May require crouching, bending, twisting, stooping, squatting, reaching, holding arms and weight overhead and in different positions. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. 

All employees are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which includes, at a minimum, hard hat, earplugs, safety glasses and steel-toed boots with metatarsal guards.

Will include exposure to moving mechanical parts, welding flash and fumes, high noise and summer heat.

Starting pay is $18.85/hour progressing to $20.45/hour after one year. You will also be eligible for a shift differential of $2.00 hour.
