Canam Steel Corporation is a major US manufacturer of open web steel joists and steel deck.  The company participates in thousands of projects each year ranging from large distribution centers and high rise projects, to small retail centers.  The steel joist business in the US dates back to 1986 as a partnership with Canam Group and our steel deck business was launched by an acquisition of the United Steel Deck brand in 2010.  The Corporation currently operates six fabrication facilities, several sales and engineering offices, and employs approximately 800 people across the United States.

Job Description

The maintenance manager is responsible for managing, coaching and mentoring the department personnel, preventative maintenance, and general maintenance and repair of equipment, machinery, buildings and other facilities. The position also plans, creates budgets and submits recommendations for facility modifications, including estimates on equipment, labor materials and other related costs.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise personnel activities and direct work force to ensure all equipment throughout plant and office and facility is maintained.
  • Establishes job priorities and time frames for Maintenance Staff.  Monitors job completion.
  • Communicate with tech support and solve complex electrical issues.
  • Operate, troubleshoot and repair various types of production machinery in a manufacturing environment;
  • Parts allocation and tool crib management.
  • Responsible for training employees on equipment, task procedures, work standards and plant safety policies and procedures.
  • Personnel management of multi shift teams.
  • Plans, organizes and manages preventive maintenance of facility equipment.
  • Maintenance planning for multi shifts. CMMS experience preferred
  • Equipment inventory control
  • Fabrication skills, metalwork and welding. Machining skills a plus
  • Oversees the cleaning and maintenance of facility.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, technical school preferred, and 5+ years maintenance experience or a combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems required; Electrical, hydraulic and structural print reading and understanding.
  • PLC integration experience. Allan Bradley and Siemens knowledge preferred  
  • Strict adherence to safety policy, leading by example.
  • Bilingual a big plus
  • Previous experience in manufacturing facilities with emphasis on fast paced production.
  • Microsoft Excel, Word and Google experience.
  • Highly organized. Clean, orderly and efficient.
  • Flexible work hours as shift demand may change. Weekends are a must; 50+ hours minimum.
  • Ability to plan large scale projects and manage them from start to finish.
  • Problem Solving/Analytical skills;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written; Cooperate and team build with various departments, vendors and personnel; email etiquette

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Working near moving mechanical parts and sparks from welding;
  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles;
  • Occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock;
  • Very loud, noisy work environment;
  • Personal Protective Equipment must be worn at all times (safety boots, safety glasses, welding hood, welding gloves/sleeves, ear plugs, etc.)
