Canam Steel Corporation is a major US manufacturer of open web steel joists and steel deck.  The company participates in thousands of projects each year ranging from large distribution centers and high rise projects, to small retail centers.  The steel joist business in the US dates back to 1986 as a partnership with Canam Group and our steel deck business was launched by an acquisition of the United Steel Deck brand in 2010.  The Corporation currently operates six fabrication facilities, several sales and engineering offices, and employs approximately 800 people across the United States.  

Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:  Responsible as back-up and support to multiple operation functions including production, traffic and purchasing.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
•    Performs data entry functions.
•    Assist in conducting End of Period inventories.
•    Pick up and disperse reports.
•    Files reports, letters and other documents. Maintains orderly filing systems.
•    Performs other routine clerical duties as required including the preparation of forms, spreadsheets and other documents.
•    Performs other job duties as assigned.
•    Maintains a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in an effective manner with customers, co-workers, clients and supervisors.

Essential Functions may also include the following:
Production:
•    Read and analyze charts, work orders, production schedules, and other records and reports to determine production requirements
•    Accumulate daily production sheets.
•    Collect, log and disperse orders.

Traffic:
•    Assists in the scheduling of shipments and communicates with affected departments and PM
•    Assists with raw material delivery appointments, system receipts, accuracy of paperwork
•    Takes pictures of outgoing loads and logs them as required

Purchasing:
•    With the assistance of the Purchasing Manager, administer the ordering and clerical activities involved in purchasing, such as the distribution of bids or inquiries, the receipt of quotations, negotiations, and the receipt and checking of invoices for payment.
 

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:
•    Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, Logistics or related field, preferred.
•    Proficient with Microsoft windows and Office Suite, Advanced level Excel preferred
•    Extensive communication abilities – both oral and written including the ability to write routine reports and correspondence and the ability to speak effectively with customers.
•    Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
•    Ability to work independently without close supervision to make sound decisions based on policy/Company practice.
