Canam Steel Corporation is a major US manufacturer of open web steel joists and steel deck.  The company participates in thousands of projects each year ranging from large distribution centers and high rise projects, to small retail centers.  The steel joist business in the US dates back to 1986 as a partnership with Canam Group and our steel deck business was launched by an acquisition of the United Steel Deck brand in 2010.  The Corporation currently operates six fabrication facilities, several sales and engineering offices, and employs approximately 800 people across the United States.  The positions available are located at our Point of Rocks, Maryland, Jacksonville, Florida and Washington, Missouri locations.

Job Description

Essential Job Duties:

· Evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs, applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling and materials;  conferring with equipment vendors;  soliciting observations from operators.

· Develops manufacturing processes by performing research, design and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods and production equipment.

· Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout resulting in cost reduction and quality improvement.

· Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods;  testing finished product and process capabilities;  establishing standards;  confirming manufacturing processes.

· Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and the pursuit of value stream improvements.

· Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.

· Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends.

·  Provides manufacturing engineering information by answering questions and requests.

·  Maintains product and process data base by designing programs and entering data, while complying with government regulations.

·  Completes design and development projects by training and guiding others.

·  Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks;  participation in professional societies.

·  Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

·  Performs other related duties as assigned.

·  Lead capacity expansion including upgrades to existing facilities, new startups, and technology upgrade.

·  Lead capital project management by identifying problems, providing solutions, justifying capital, cost savings, and project management.

·  Promote co-worker participation and teamwork by incorporating task teams to solve problems and implement changes.

·  Issue monthly progress reports on project status, issues, timetables for completion.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

· Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, with concentration preferably in Mechanical or Industrial

· Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in manufacturing engineering or a commensurate level of experience with related products.

Additional Information

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·Experience with PLC/motor control diagnostics preferred

·Ability to assist in high level mechanical/electrical machine diagnostics to support reliability team

·Must show proficiency in gathering and organizing data to make improvement decisions

·Proficiency in Autocad or Solidworks

·Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously

·Must have knowledge of computers, machining and assembly practices, tools and fixturing

·Ability to communicate verbally and in writing and make presentations

·Ability to work with internal as well as external customers

·Excellent communication skills

·Must excel at working in a team environment
