Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Job Location: Ottawa, ON (145 Richmond Road)
Work Model: On-site
Work Hours: 3 days/week x 12-hour shifts
Job Status: Existing Vacancy
Salary: $63.41/hr
Position Summary
As a Litho Head Press Operator, you will be responsible for the efficient and safe operation of lithographic printing equipment to produce high-quality printed materials that meet established standards. This role oversees press performance throughout production runs, proactively addresses print and mechanical issues, and ensures equipment is properly prepared, maintained, and operated.
In this role you will provide day‑to‑day direction and coaching to press crew members, supports skill development within the team, and promotes a workplace culture focused on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following organizational standards and legal regulations
- Ensure all mechanical, electrical, and electronic controls are in good working order, clean, and properly adjusted prior to and after usage
- Demonstrate mechanical competency with the inking, dampening, printing units, and feeder
- Assign work to the 2nd Press Operator, Feeder, and Tender
- Train junior crew members
- Monitor the quality and consistency of the product during the run against the reference standard or sign‑off sheet
- Recognize and resolve printing issues such as picking, piling, ghosting, poor ink trapping, and register problems while ensuring safe press operation
- Maintain quality results by adhering to established standards
- Perform various other duties and responsibilities as required
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government of Canada Secret (Level II) personal security clearance
- Must have a minimum of 5 years lead operator experience on multi-unit, 40 inch sheet-fed printing press (straight line or perfector).
- Must be able to work all shifts (including current and newly created shift schedules), evenings, nights, weekends, 12-hour shifts and rotation
- Must be able and willing to work a reasonable amount of overtime during the week and on weekends
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job (standing/walking for prolonged periods, bend/reach, lift/lower up to 45 lbs.)
- Must possess fine motor skills (manual dexterity) and the mechanical aptitude to make necessary fine adjustments to equipment
- Must be able to follow spoken and written instructions
