Job Description

Technical Designer: create, fit and maintain patterns from a flat sketch through all levels of prototypes, to sales samples and bulk production. Work closely with Product Developers and Designers to capture a superior fit, design concept and high standard of construction. Adhere to seasonal schedules and production calendar.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain all patterns; ensure all requested changes through all stages of development are met.
  • Partnering with Design to fully understand style construction details, styling intent and proportions.
  • Ensure products are engineered to Canada Goose’s Quality and Production standards.
  • Measure all garments to create prototype / production size charts, following Canada Goose’s internal quality manual.
  • Ensure brand integrity, size and fit are consistent within the product category.
  • Work closely with sample makers to ensure they correctly understand the construction and finished details of the garment.  Review with them to see if any updates or improvements to the patterns are needed prior to going into production.
  • Provide feedback to Design on construction challenges and recommend alternatives or improvements.
  • Provide information of technical details to Product Developers as required.
  • Manage and create mock-ups in a timely manner when required.
  • Provide support and share expertise with the team member

 

Experience, Education and Designations:

  • University Degree/College Diploma in Fashion Arts.  Advanced Diploma Preferred,
  • with technical/ patternmaking emphasis.
  • 11 plus years’ experience in patternmaking, preferably in outerwear
  • Grading is an asset

 

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes:

  • Strong ability to work from scratch, from first prototype sample through to bulk production.
  • Must have a solid understanding of fabrics, garment construction and fit, including the ability to fit on live models and translate to flat pattern.
  • Gerber Accumark experience is an asset.
  • Grading experience is an asset.
  • Self-motivated, reliable and hard working.
  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of Illustrator helpful but not necessary.
  • Must be able to communicate with fellow coworkers, as well as contractors and suppliers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate garment fit and construction techniques to both internal staff as well as outside factories.
  • Must be proficient with MS Outlook.
  • Strong understanding of body shapes is a must.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment while meeting the demands of many different departments (Production, Product Development, Cutting, Quality Assurance).
  • Able to meet extremely tight deadlines.
