Job Purpose:

The Innovation Lab is on a mission to generate unique value to bring the future of Canada Goose to life. We are here to enhance and support the company core values as a Product Led, Function First brand while retaining Canada Goose’s unique culture and point of view.

This is a unique chance to impact Canada Goose’s innovation initiatives. The Innovation Manager, Materials is a critical role in the innovation LAB, responsible for spearheading innovation initatives and transform ambigious concepts into sustained business value. An Innovation Manager is the initiative owner from scope definition, insights gathering, in-depth research, building business case, product ideation, IP + invention, validation via testing to commercialisation and business adoption.

This role is a primary owner of materials at the Innovation LAB bringing an expert materials lens to the innovation agenda by managing materials research and development of innovation initiatives through the transformation of ambiguous innovation ideas to proof of concepts. This includes the exploration, identification and assessment of innovative and environmentally sustainable technologies by partnering with external and internal partners to sharpen our expertise on new topic areas. This position ensures that the development of raw materials meets or exceeds Canada Goose’s quality standards and sustainability standards, ensuring overall product integrity and excellence. 


Key Responsibilities:

Manage and execute on innovation initiatives from ideation to commercialisation

  • Lead and co-lead innovation projects from generation of concept brief from early stage insights research and opportunity identification through to concept validation, commercialisation and business adoption;
  • Synthesize research & human insight to transform them into key conclusions, compelling business stories, and strategic recommendations;
  • Build innovation business cases defined by unique market opportunities in line with the innovation agenda
  • Continuously generate new potential inventions which can be ownable through IP;
  • Execute and manage timeline around delivery of proof-of-concept innovations including component and system testing in both laboratory and contextual environments (wear testing)
  • Work closely with Innovation LAB advanced prototyping, materials, concept design and validation testing experts to ensure a clear understanding of construction and finished details of the concept
  • Oversee the creation and implementation of exisiting/ new testing protocals at a component or system level in the lab with both external and internal partners
  • Oversee testing and research studies related to innovation platforms
  • Drive proof-of-concept prototypes to commercialisation through in line partnerships and GTM process
  • Become a strategic partner to cross-functional innovation stakeholders by bringing a strong understanding of materials innovation and strategy


Establish and deliver excellence in  Materials

  • Evaluate a wide set of market insights, customer pain points to identify opportunities for future innovation initiatives in the context of the Innovation roadmap
  • Liaise and collaborate closely with cross-functional partners and key executive stakeholders to develop, establish and continually evolve our innovation portfolio
  • Establish a high standard in Materials R&D within the Innovation Team and in our projects and approach to solutions
  • Continuously build and maintain a network of research experts across areas of interest including individuals and research institutes for future potential collaborations and partnerships
  • Maintain awareness of latest cutting-edge materials being generated in our industry and analogous industries with a focus on sustainable solutions related to the innovation areas;
  • Work with required creative partners to establish visual designs for innovation concepts, in line with Canada Goose aesthetic requirements
  • Work closely with inline Materials and Quality Assurance team to ensure the highest level of quality when concepts are close to commercialization



Experience, Education and Designations:

  • Bachelors degree with a focus on textile/yarn engineering or design; advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum of 7+ years experience working with mills, materials fabricators, 3rd party testing faculties
  • Experience with performance testing, product testing and working in a laboratory setting
  • Deep technical knowledge and understanding of textiles and non-textile manufacturing technologies
  • Experience traveling and working directly with mills, material fabricators, technology providers, and factories across the globe

Working Conditions:

  • Working from home, office and laboratory environment (this position is based in Toronto and the person must be located in Toronto)
  • Travel (including international) to field or manufacturing locations when required <20%
