Job Description

Under the general direction of the Manager, responsible for analyzing, documenting and translating business requirements into technical system requirements. Communicating requirements to technical staff and developing and executing test plans and use cases to validate changes. Responsible for applying test methodology, engineering and product knowledge in the design and execution of testing strategies and test cases for the functional and regression testing of assigned applications. Participates in planning the product roadmap and the end-to-end system lifecycle. Works with internal and external customers to understand business needs and advance application functionality.  Engages with internal and external business partners and IT constituents and aids in the delivery of the strategic business plan and mandates by changing industry conditions and governances, and to remediate system deficiencies and problems.

What Will You Be Doing? 

  • Analyzes and translates business requirements into system functional and non-functional requirements and designs for software systems and end-user training. Estimates time and effort for various phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and works with the business to right size scope in order to meet the business timelines. Performs requirements gathering, analysis and user story and use-case development with internal and external customers for software delivery. Advocates and represent the business needs to technology constituents to ensure those needs are effectively translated into functional and technical specifications. Participates in meetings with various technology teams like Architecture, UNIX and Database Administration to plan for capacity, security, technology relevance, etc.
  • Creates, executes and coordinates functional, integration and regression test plans, test cases and estimates time to complete test activities for projects and production support. May provide guidance to others in the execution of security, integration and performance and user acceptance testing as required. Creates and prepares test data, executes test cases, documents detailed results to satisfy test audit requirements, and provides regular and ad-hoc test reports. Documents and tracks identified issues and participates in issue resolution.
  • Supports business application portfolios through the development, communication and execution of application roadmap or other production changes based on product deficiencies, the business strategic plan, regulatory changes, innovation, and consolidation opportunities for internal and external business partners. May be responsible for managing development, communication and execution of single applications as needed.
  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with assigned business partners through continuous, collaborative communication and reporting of assigned SDLC activities on their behalf. Maintains technology service levels through the development, monitoring, and communication of Service Level Agreement metrics with business partners and technology staff.
  • Monitors software vendor interactions and delivery to ensure ISO needs and contractual obligations are met. Escalates delivery deficiencies to department management.
  • Participates in the initiation and transition phases of internal product lifecycle. Collaborates with technology teams to establish project scope, budget and schedule. Partners closely with technology teams to ensure successful transition of new products or functionality into operational maintenance and support. Assists with knowledge transfer to all support teams and prepares business partner communications.

Qualifications

Level of Education and Discipline:

A Bachelor's degree (BA, BS) or equivalent education, training or experience in Information Technology, Management of Information Systems, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field.

Amount of Experience:

             Equivalent years of education and training, plus five (5) or more years related                 experience.

Certifications:

Business process modeling, requirements management and product management certifications, and/or other relevant technical certifications such as CBAP, CSQE, CSQA are desirable.

Type of Experience

Experience executing traceable software testing, development, system analysis, and business requirements analysis. Data architecture (application and/or data architecture) experience. Customer service and/or project management experience a plus. Energy industry experience and experience with Unix, Oracle, Java, and W3C standards is desired.

Must be able to work effectively in a team environment as facilitator and team member.  Excellent analytical, verbal and written communication and documentation skills required, with a demonstrated attention to detail.  Ability to use deductive reasoning and analytical thinking with sound judgment and decision-making skills.  Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills are also essential.  Must be self-starting and willing and able to work independently in a dynamic corporate organization under pressure of tight deadlines and aggressive expectations.  Self-motivated, problem solving skills and the ability to influence others without direct authority. 

Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to grasp big-picture concepts and break them down into subcomponents. Must be able to identify information technology opportunities for continual improvement or to meet changing business conditions.

Additional Information

The pay range for the Sr System Analyst position is $104,400 - $174,000 annually.
