Job Description

We are looking for a payroll tax analyst/specialist with moderate to complex level multi-state tax accounting/withholding, reporting, analysis and audit experience.  This individual will work with the Senior Payroll Manager to clear the backlog of tax related actions, prepare all CC companies year-end processes, and develop documentation and structure for future tax account maintenance.

Pay Range: $85K - $92K, depending on experience

This is a hybrid (2 days in office) temporary contractor position that will end on January 31, 2025 (4 month contract).

Primary goals:

  • Audit all 2024 employee records for tax setup accuracy in preparation for Q4 and year end reporting.
    • Identify and complete all open tax registrations
    • Confirm accuracy or identify gaps of all assigned state/local taxes (EE and ER)
    • Perform 1099M and W-2 previews for configuration errors
  • Assess current status of all tax accounts
    • Online portal access
    • Outstanding credit or balance due resolution
    • POA tracking and resolution, including maintenance cadence
    • 2025 unemployment rate – track incoming & source from state portals
  • Create SOP documentation for tax related questions
    • New state registration and activation
    • Create live/ work reference grid (e.g. team member lives in RI, works in MA)
  • Develop/finalize tax maintenance filing structure
    • Review current structure and identify opportunities to standardize/improve for future growth
    • Assist with moving remaining files from old Restricted site to the new Payroll site

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience working as a tax analyst or similar role
  • Excellent research, analytical, and data management skills
  • Multi-FEIN and multi-state payroll tax regulation experience
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) is preferred, but not required
  • Paylocity experience preferred, but not required
