Job Description

  • Take responsibility as lead systems engineer / chief engineer on new projects, programmes and studies in the conceptual phases up to Systems Requirement Review (SRR) and/or Preliminary Design Review (PDR) maturity;
  • Set-up an integrated Engineering team from Chief Engineering and the Centers of Competence;
  • Form a coherent and efficient group and arbitrate to resolve conflict;
  • Manage and lead all activities required to meet overall system design and major constituents; integration needs for new programmes;
  • Perform trade-off analysis in order to select the best overall vehicle and system architecture fulfilling system/product requirements;
  • Define the top level technical objectives and requirements to steer a robust launch of a new programme;
  • Ensure future products and concepts convergence;
  • Ensure interface & integration of Engineering activities;
  • Explore technical, manufacturing & operational aspects , this includes the capability to assess value & cost benefit;
  • Support analysis of competitors products, at Spacecraft and/or Vehicle & Components level, for the benefit of Strategy, Marketing, Sales, Engineering and Technology functions;
  • Develop knowledge and propose directions on environmental aspects;
  • Align engineering tasks with internal technology development programmes;
  • Support proposal activities from initial contact to successful contract signature;
  • Represent the technical aspects of the programmes internally and externally;

Qualifications

  • Degree in aerospace engineering; physics (or equivalent);
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of system engineering, preferably with a focus on human spaceflight;
  • Experience with Systems Engineering processes, techniques, e.g. with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and tools (e.g. CAMEO), Requirements Engineering andtools (DOORS, JAMA);
  • Knowledge of spacecraft systems and subsystems architectures and mission support concepts;
  • Ability to define and support programmatic aspects like engineering schedule and risks;
  • Ability to generate and review technical documentation, e.g. SPECs, IRD/ICD;
  • Understanding of integration and test activities on hardware and software;
  • Effective at working in a multi-disciplinary and transnational team;
  • Ability to learn fast, able to work pro-actively and comfortable working in full autonomy,attention to details;
  • Fluency in English is mandatory; knowledge of German is an advantage.
