Job Description
The primary responsibility of the VDC Project Engineer is to coordinate multidisciplinary modeling efforts while utilizing Virtual Design and Construction processes. This individual oversees model progress and facilitates coordination and communication among the entire project team. This person will be required to perform these functions on all project execution types including design, construction, and ONEsolution.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate multidisciplinary modeling efforts by utilizing Virtual Design and Construction processes and tools
- Assist in development of BIM Execution Plan (BEP) strategies and lead client interaction with support from the VDC Regional Manager
- Work with the VDC Coordinator to execute VDC standards with clients and communicate standard requirements to the project team
- Oversee model progress and facilitate coordination and communication among the entire project team, including trade partners, subconsultants and owner
- Lead spatial planning to develop discipline "Spatial Allocation Zones" for the project
- Manage federated BIM models to support overall constructability, logistics, operability, and safety
- Responsible for Revit PSAT setup and maintenance
- Responsible for maintaining all project General Arrangement drawings with assistance from the VDC Project Coordinator
- Provide clash report data and clash resolution guidance for the project team
- Evaluate BIM modeling expertise of the project team including trade partners and external design partners
- Lead design/BIM coordination and review meetings with all disciplines/trade partners throughout the project lifecycle for all project execution strategies (design, construction, and ONEsolution)
- Understand build sequencing and work with project leadership to determine the appropriate building design breakdown and areas for coordination where applicable
- Assist with team training and troubleshooting for VDC tools and processes
- Identify conflicts, incomplete or ambiguous design information, communicate it to the project team and help drive resolution
- Work with VDC Regional Manager on implementation and support of field technology
- Work with project teams to ensure changes or updates to field conditions are incorporated into the model
- Facilitate the review and release of model elements to partners per CRB’s quality procedures
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Associates degree in Computer Aided Design, or a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or completion of Construction Management Certificate Program, or equivalent
- Minimum five years of experience in an EPC firm setting or construction industry equivalency
- Ability to travel to CRB Offices or construction project sites as required
Additional Qualifications
- Understanding of building design and construction sequencing
- Experience facilitating design/BIM coordination meetings with all disciplines and trade partners throughout the project lifecycle for all execution strategies (design, construction, and ONEsolution)
- Experience with development of use point maps, room cards and preliminary equipment layouts during early design phases
- Experience facilitating spatial planning to develop discipline "Spatial Allocation Zones" for all MEP systems
- Advanced proficiency in Revit and Navisworks
- Understanding of industry standard VDC documentation (BEP, BIMForum, etc.)
- Experience with 3D collaboration processes and tools (BIM360/ACC Suite, Assemble, clash tracking, laser scanning, iConstruct, model-based point layout)
- Demonstrates good organizational, communication, and leadership skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
