Job Description
As an Associate, Investment Operations, you will support the External Portfolio Management (EPM) Investment teams with transaction management, asset servicing, investment accounting, reporting and valuations. You will also help oversee the day-to-day evaluation, accounting, and monitoring of relevant investment portfolios, covering all asset classes and security types in Hedge Funds, Co-Investments, and Managed Account Platform (MAP). This role requires a strong background in fund operations and investment accounting, coupled with an ability to lead cross-functional projects.
Team Overview
Reporting to the Manager, Fund Operations, the Associate will partner closely with internal groups such as Investment Department, Finance, Legal, and Business Management, as well as with external service providers. The role is both strategic and hands-on, requiring strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and people leadership capabilities.
Accountabilities:
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of the entire trade life cycle for Funds investment transactions (Hedge Funds, Co-investments, and Special Investment Vehicles).
- Review trade tickets and accounting entries. Ensure figures agree with transacted amounts, completeness of supporting documentation and appropriate authorization is in place to facilitate investment closings.
- Prepare or review monthly NAV calculations for external hedge funds and analyze the PnL movements.
- Prepare or review management and incentive fee accrual calculations.
- Contribute to the processing of complex investments with the ability to understand impact on accounting, reporting and performance.
- Assist in the preparation and review of financial statements, note disclosures and management reports to ensure accuracy and completeness, as well as provide valuable insights and commentary.
- Partner with Investment Departments, Finance, Legal, Tax, Treasury and Investment Structure Management to assist in investment closings and settlement.
- Maintain an ongoing effective working relationship with Service providers, Administrators, Auditors, and Board of Directors. Monitor the quality of the services provided and escalate or provide feedback as necessary.
- Build a reputation as a subject matter expert in the hedge funds domain for issues related to investment operations and accounting.
- Continually strive for operational excellence. Seek ways to streamline processes, create operational efficiencies and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Identify cross-functional gaps or risks and propose effective solutions along with appropriate governance and controls to mitigate the identified risks.
- Ensure process documentation is kept up to date for existing procedures.
- Assist or lead in various business projects and new initiatives
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree or college diploma in related field.
- 5-7 years of relevant experience.
- Professional designations such as CFA and CPA are considered an asset.
- Strong analytical, financial and accounting skills will be necessary to perform this role.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and a high degree of professionalism combined with the ability to readily adapt to rapidly changing investment business and technology environments.
- Advanced Excel skills and comfortable learning new systems.
