Job Description

We are currently recruiting for an Analyst for the Private Equity Asia group with a focus on fund commitments, and opportunistically working on secondary investments and direct investments. Located in our Hong Kong office, the Analyst plays a key role in investing and managing commitments to leading private equity funds and transactions in the region, and will have exposure to the leaders of the private equity industry.

Role Specific Accountabilities:

Analyze Investment Opportunities

  • Actively participate in the due diligence process for fund commitments,  and opportunistically secondary and direct investments, including building complex financial models, leading due diligence meetings, and proactively conducting research to address diligence issues
  • Communicate and work with internal and external parties to drive due diligence and deal execution
  • Conduct technical research by leveraging internal and external resources including key information services and databases
  • Share views with team members on overall deal attractiveness based on diligence findings.

Make Recommendations

  • Contribute to the development of investment recommendations based on the results of the team’s due diligence and analysis
  • Participate in drafting private equity investment recommendations as well as presenting investment recommendations to the Investment Committee and Board, as required.

Monitor Relationships and Investment Portfolio

  • Represent CPP Investments externally by building relationships with general partners, limited partners, and other industry participants to assist in marketing CPP Investments and sourcing investment opportunities for the broader organization   
  • Proactively monitor ongoing financial performance of the portfolio and report any meaningful developments and insights
  • Monitor go-forward pipeline of funds and secondary investments
  • Assist with internal projects such as market reviews, portfolio construction, and strategy reviews
  • Participate in and contribute to the training and development of colleagues and recruitment.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of investment banking / private equity / strategy consulting experience; exposure to private equity is not required but would be a positive
  • Strong research, financial modeling, and analytical skills
  • Superior communication skills, including oral/written communication to articulate complex concepts in a clear and concise manner with internal and external parties
  • Track record of effective teamwork to deliver quality work under strict timelines
  • Candidates must exhibit conduct consistent with our guiding principles of integrity, partnership, and high performance
  • Willingness to travel
  • Written and verbal fluency in an Asian language is an asset.
