Job Description
The Relationship Management team (“RM”) enables a coordinated One Fund approach to strategic advisor relationships for the Fund, including banks and consultants. The RM team acts as a gateway to those key relationships, to unlock value for the Fund.
Reporting to the MD Relationship Management, the Director Relationship Management will play a key role coordinating the Fund relationship with select banks. This is a 12-month contract role.
- Establish a strong and open relationship with select banks, to ensure they see us as a priority counterparty, understand our priorities, and grant financial support, deal flow, top quality service and access to content and people.
- Become a trusted partner for teams across the Fund, by understanding their business needs, by being responsive to their requests, and by proactively identifying and activating levers to create value via bank relationships.
- Organize and participate in RM events, including bank review sessions and thought partnership initiatives.
- Become an expert on select bank relationships, by gathering input from across the organization and from external sources, to have clarity on the strengths, priorities, and opportunities for each relationship, and communicate them internally.
- Draft internal reports, briefs, and presentations (in collaboration with the RM Manager), to effectively share quantitative and qualitative insights with the organization, on banks and on the RM Team.
- Quickly respond to internal requests and use judgement to identify the right response, which can include connecting with bank representatives; escalating the ask to the CPP Investments Executive Owner to jointly the ask to a bank; facilitating an introduction; etc.
- Jointly with the rest of the RM team, provide insights to teams across the organization to inform the award of bank mandates.
- Contribute to various initiatives of the RM team and the broader group.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience working in Corporate Finance in a bank or in an asset management firm.
- Strong financial acumen, with deep understanding of capital markets and the role banks play in the success of an investment organization.
- Ability to interact with C-level executives.
- Natural relationship builder, with ability to create rapport with external and internal stakeholders at all levels of seniority.
- Versatile professional, who can adapt to a wide range of situations, ranging from participating in senior meetings and events, to drafting internal reports.
- Service orientation and ability to multi-task, to effectively juggle requests from external partners and from teams across the organization.
- Strong communication and presentation skills (oral and written), including communication and presentations to internal and external senior executives.
- Team oriented player who mentors and coaches junior team members. Conduct consistent with our guiding principles of integrity, partnership, and high performance.
- Private investment experience or Sponsors Coverage experience is an asset.
