Job Description

We are presently recruiting for a Senior Associate/Portfolio Manager in Equity Trading within the Trading group in the Total Fund Management (TFM) department based in Toronto. Trading is responsible for the execution of all transactions in public market securities for the Fund (excluding credit).

The primary responsibility of this role will be as an equity trader focused on trading public equities and equity-linked securities for fundamental, quantitative and index strategies. The individual will collaborate with the rest of the Trading team to deliver the groups broader objectives.  

Role Specific Accountabilities:

  • Trade equities and equity-linked products for fundamental, quantitative and index portfolio managers in the Americas and Asia Pacific.
  • Manage relationships and collaborate with investment teams to provide transaction advice, high quality execution, and ongoing market insights.
  • Stay current on equity market trends to distil insights back to the organization.
  • Play an active role in the research and development of trading execution enhancements, as well as adding value to upstream investment decision processes.
  • Take a leadership role in ad hoc projects and tasks on a timely basis, e.g. process improvements or internal presentations.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with external partners.
  • Train and mentor junior members of the Equity Trading team.
  • Collaborate closely with the rest of TFM by bringing market experience and insights that are relevant to the broader objectives of the group.

Qualifications

If you possess the following, we would like to hear from you:

  • Commensurate experience in equity capital markets and/or equity trading.
  • Expertise using electronic/program trading algorithms, block trading and other trading tools/platforms across one or more regions.
  • Experience executing primary and secondary placements, blocks, and risk bids.
  • Deep understanding of global markets, with specialized expertise in the US market and a passion for sharing insights with others.
  • Proven ability to leverage market insights to drive systematic improvements in trade execution.
  • Experience managing client and/or portfolio manager relationships.
  • Experience using various vendor OMS and EMS solutions.
  • University undergraduate degree in relevant field.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a track record of working effectively with others.
  • Embody CPP Investments’ Guiding Principles of Integrity, Partnership and High Performance.

Following would be an asset but is not required:

  • Buy side equity trading experience.
  • Experience with quantitative techniques related to equity t-cost models.
  • Experience trading volatility products.
  • CFA or other relevant professional designation.
