Job Description

This role presents an excellent opportunity for a top-performing candidate with an alpha generation mindset to drive impact within a data-driven investment group.  The Investment Science team, with a mission to drive value creation across the entire fund, seeks to enhance decision-making through the integration of empirical investment research, data utilization, and cutting-edge analytical and engineering methodologies. The team is currently searching for a Quantitative Engineer to actively contribute to its data & analytically driven investment initiatives.

Investment Science’s initiatives involve developing, enhancing, and systematizing investment decisions across various asset classes as well as public and private markets. Recently, a key focus has been on driving various decisions across the investing lifecycle (e.g., capital allocation and security selection) through proprietary forecasts which leverage advanced analytical techniques such as machine learning, natural language processing and generative AI.

As a valued member of the team, the candidate will collaborate with other investors, researchers, and engineers on a diverse range of initiatives. The individual's primary responsibilities and contributions would include leading or supporting the onboarding, engineering, and evaluation of new datasets; construction and evaluation of predictive features; development and implementation of AI models and forecasts; and productionalizing/systematizing of research outcomes.

  • Leverage cutting edge analytical techniques such as machine-learning, NLP, Generative AI and the use of multimodal datasets to enable alpha-generating investment decisions through proprietary research
  • Bring an alpha generation mindset in contributing towards data & feature engineering, prediction modeling, and portfolio construction
  • Work in a fast-paced environment while collaborating with investment professionals, researchers, and engineers
  • Contribute to the development and application of investment frameworks in combination with data and advanced analytical techniques to different priority areas such as capital allocation and security selection
  • Support high-impact initiatives, in partnership with subject matter experts from across the organization, to conduct and enable research, design, and implementation of investment capabilities

Qualifications

Requirements and Preferences – Technical:

  • Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or another quantitative field would be preferred
  • Outstanding programming skills and hands-on experience with Python, PySpark or similar technologies
  • Experience demonstrating progressive investment research and/or investment engineering with proven impact is an asset
  • Practical experience building and evolving statistical and machine learning models and data pipelines is a plus
  • Experience working with financial data sets and knowledge of investment lifecycle is preferred
  • Experience in solving problems through the combination of quantitative, analytical and/or programming skills
  • Experience using cloud (e.g., AWS/Azure/GCP) and associated data and machine learning services is a plus
  • Experience building or developing generative AI or NLP powered solutions and capabilities is a plus (including RAG-based applications, and experience with different foundational models)

Requirements and Preferences – Soft Skills:

  • Strong critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity in finance, economics, and investment management
  • Passion and demonstrated curiosity for different AI techniques (e.g., ML, Deep Learning, GenAI, etc.)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an interest in growing people management and stakeholder influencing skills
  • Ability to work in an entrepreneurial environment and be a self-starter
